Abbas to appeal to UN to end Israeli occupation

The Palestinian leadership is to make an appeal to the international community to set a deadline for Israel to end its occupation of its territories, a senior official told has told the AFP on Monday.

The Palestinian leadership is preparing "to go to the UN Security Council to enforce an end to the [Israeli] occupation," senior Palestine Liberation Organisation official Wasel Abu Yusef told AFP.

Labour minister Ahmad al-Majdalani also said the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas was "working towards... holding an international conference to set a timetable for an end to the occupation," he told AFP on Sunday.

Neither official gave any details on when the Palestinian demand would be presented.

In the event of a likely veto by the United States at the Security Council, the Palestinians would consider fast-tracking an application to become party to the International Criminal Court, Abu Yussef said.

"If the US uses a veto, then we still have the ICC card," he told AFP.

According to one of the reports I read. Abbas will give them a month to finalize a two state solution based on 1967 borders.

If the international community once again supports an extensions of further occupation, according to one of the reports I read the PA will dissolve itself completely and hand Gaza/West Bank responsibility to Netanyahu's government.

This is a good move if he is seriously going to do this. So we either get a two state solution or Israel's occupation will return to be a main topic in the international community.

The two state solution is looking increasingly unlikely Israel believes it can manage the status-quo.

This is why Abbas should go forward with this plan. If Israel feels no pressure it won't comply for peace. It as you said, feels it can manage the status-quo which is why Abbas should dissolve the PA and make Israel take responsibility for all occuipped Palestinian residents.

what is wrong with status-quo. make status-quo the international borders and move on. peace will prevail

So their is nothing wrong with having settlements in your opinion??? How would you feel if some foreigners developed housing projects around Delhi without your governments approval and had special roads for them which you couldn't use because you donot belong to the "chosen people" and if you demanded your rights you were told to carry on with status-quo just to keep the peace..!

conflicts are different. you cannot compare housing projects around Delhi to isreali settlements because there is no agreed upon border between isreal and palestine. agreeing on status will solve violence

A functionable Palestinian state capable to stand on its own feet will solve the problem having settlements right in the middle of proposed Palestinian state denies that

Palestinians need to get rid of Abbas and his flock!

i guess they have enough resources to be able to stand on its own. isreal is not going give land where they have settlement. it is important for palestine to make sure that isreal is not going to build more settlements.

That's not up to the Palestinians. Israel forcefully through state sponsored violence(Military occupation) expels Palestinians/Regulates their land/builds settlements on Palestinian land. Israel refuses to commit to the peace process, even the US states this.

@Hazzy997 in your view what would be the outline of the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Deal.

Palestinian Refugees, Israeli Settlers, Water/ Resources, Jerusalem/ Borders, Palestinian Security Force/ Internal Forces.

In my view, Israeli settlers are illegal. Although, they could be integrated as citizens of a future Palestinian state if Israel hadn't made them Jewish specific colonies which are no-go zones for non-Jews. So those settlements must become condos/cities for a Palestinian state. 1967 borders must be the framework.

For Jerusalem, I believe it should controlled by a diverse Parliament specific to Jerusalem. So we have a Parliament with equal representation for Jews/Christians/Muslims or something like 40/30/20 ratio. The Palestinian security forces will control the city but this local government will manage most affairs.

As for water resources, Israel won't let go of that. They want the water resources in the West Bank. Only thing that can secure them is force. Palestinian civilians should demonstrate/gain international recognition to prevent Israel from seizing resources. Israel can't control our borders at all, including along Jordanian river.

The most complex part is right of return/settlers. I believe most settlers must go. Some might remain, but the settlements must be integrated as I stated above and there will be no separation at all. Israel must take some Palestinians in as citizens for the right of return. I don't believe in land swaps. There will be no separate Jewish entity in the West Bank as there is now. They must become citizens and Palestinians will retain freedom of movement over all the West Bank.

The security forces will be for Gaza/West Bank will be the PA security forces under unity government including the current Hamas security employees. Israeli forces will be between the pathway to Gaza and West Bank and PA/Israel will issue travel permits jointly.

This is my view on the two state solution. If a one state solution can't be had. But, Israel doesn't want a one state solution unless it includes the separation of entities. So they don't want anything changed, but will say the Palestinians in occuipped territories will have less restrictions and economic improvements. That's a bad deal which will legitimize the occupation. It will encourage Israel to continue settlements/restrictions until it becomes unbearable and Palestinians decide to move out.

The Zionists are expansionists. The two-state solution will not be agreed upon because that will put an end to Israel confiscation of more lands through the ongoing settlements.
