A Pakistani Communication SAT to be launched on April 2011

ISLAMABAD, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Dr Samar Mubarakmand, a renowned Pakistani nuclear scientist said that Pakistan would launch its first space satellite in April 2011.

Talking to a private TV channel on Tuesday, Dr Samar said the satellite, likely to be sent into earth orbit, would monitor mineral and agriculture programs and weather conditions, reports China's Xinhua news agency.

He said this project is funded by the Pakistani Planning Commission and there is no scarcity of funds for nuclear and space projects of the country.

Dr Samar said the country's nuclear programme was not inferior to any other country in its standard and proficiency.

Dr Samar is a nuclear scientist and nuclear physicist, and was the chairman of Pakistan's National Engineering and Scientific Commission in 2001-2007, according to local news agency.

He largely contributed to the nuclear program of Pakistan and he was awarded three highest civil awards of the country.

He got the national fame in May 1998 when he headed the scientists' team which conducted the six nuclear tests in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan province.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 18 (APP):The first satellite of Pakistan will be launched in April 2011, member planning commission for science and technology Dr. Samar Mobarakmend said Tuesday.“Country has sufficient funds for atomic and space programs, and Pakistan’s nuclear program is not lesser than other atomic countries”, he said as a chief guest in a 3-day international conference on Aerospace Science and Engineering ICASE-2009.
He said that nation should keep faith on atomic scientists and engineers. Pakistan has much potential and strong human resources, but the need of the hour is that we should use these resources by providing some proper direction to achieve the desired results, he added.

The objective of the conference was to establish dialogues leading to long lasting, healthy technical cooperation amongst the aerospace, communication and materials scientists and engineers of the developing and developed countries.

Other senior dignitaries, scientists and researchers from the academia and R&D were also present on the occasion.

The secretary of the conference Dr.A.A Mazhar highlighted the agenda of the conference, while Imran Rehman, the vice chancellor of IST outlined the scope of the conference.

Researchers from USA, Italy, South Africa, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Bangladesh and Ukraine also attended the conference.

There were fifteen Keynote lectures, 29 contributory talks and 48 posters in the conference. The conference had distinguished speakers from Academia, universities, Aerospace and Satellite Industry in national/international, R&D organizations.

The major topics of the conference include Aerospace Propulsion, Aerodynamics, Structures and Control Systems, Space Communication, Telemetry, Tele-command and Monitoring Systems, Development and Production of Materials for Aerospace applications and Ancillary Space Technology topics including Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Sciences (GIS) etc.

ICASE will have a remarkable effect on the progression of aerospace science and engineering in Pakistan Institute of Space Technology is the pioneer institute in providing education related with space Technology. This conference is proposed to be a biennial event to provide International fora at which scientists, and engineers can remain current with recent developments in high performance aerospace materials, space communication techniques, design and construction of space systems/structures etc.

1)Its not the first satellite associated with Pakistan being launched
2)its There's nothing in the article saying the Launch Vehicle will be Pak origin
3)It most likely seems to be launched for us by our Chinese friends

I really doubt the launch vehicle would be Pakistan made. even if Pakistan has the technology of rocket, they wouldnt be able to launch it from their soil bcoz of geographical location of Pakistan. It would be either from Chinese launch pad or from somewhere else.

BEIJING: China will launch a telecommunication satellite, named PakSat-1R, for Pakistan in 2011.
The satellite's chief contractor — China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) — said Friday that a Long March 3B rocket will be used to put the satellite into orbit.
It will launch from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern Sichuan Province.
The company said ground control facilities for the satellite will be delivered to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission after it enters orbit.
CGWIC and its sub-contractors are responsible for the design, manufacturing, final assembly, testing and launch of the satellite.
It will have a life span of 15 years.
Pakistan will use it for domestic telecommunication and broadcast services.
Contracts for the satellite deal were inked Wednesday in the presence of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
This is the third time China has delivered a satellite to another country. In 2007, two satellites were sent to Nigeria.

Interesting post. Do they probably mean Pakistan will launch with the SLV on its own? But that seems incorrect also, mainly because it is likely that the satellite will be launched through the Chinese SLV.

PakSat-1R is manufactured and launched by China. Pakistan has already launched its homemade Badr series satellites before. Also, Pakistan is already operating PakSat-1 since 2003. So how is PakSat-1R Pakistans first satellite?

Ya, most likely your alternatives are true. This might be first major satellite or it is first of the new series satellite.

PAKSAT-1R

By the end of 2011, Pakistan plans to replace PAKSAT-1 with a new communication satellite PAKSAT-1R which will be manufactured exclusively for Pakistan. The satellite will support all conventional and modern Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) applications. The satellite will have a total of up to 30 transponders: 18 in Ku-band and 12 in C-band. To ensure high degree of reliability / availability of the system, two (02) fully redundant Satellite Ground Control Stations (SGCS) would be established in Karachi and Lahore, one to act as the Main and the other as Backup respectively.


So, it's really the first satellite of Pakistan as others were somehow not exclusively for Pakistan.
