A milestone at Garden Reach; GRSE places India in warship exporters’ club

If GRSE in Philippines tender able to design Kamotra with 8 Brahmos( by removing 2 RBU-6000) and 16 Barak-8 and able to add LM2500+ CODAG, then $300-$350mn is fine for such a frigate, and there will be lots of opportunity for selling it to Vietnam and also to Bangladesh.

GRSE, Kolkata is closest to BD.

Nope not posible, BD won't purchase weapon systems from india. We primarily buy chinese or russian.

I'd love it if you could think of just one viable customer for a $1 billion USD frigate/destroyer such as the P-17/P-15A.

South Korea, though they already have their own? Taiwan maybe if india has the balls to try? Indonesia? They could afford them, but i think they would just buy spanish/french/german/us as the differential in price between indian frigates/destroyers and western is not that great.

What the hell is this?

Keel laying is the first major event in shipbuilding. It denotes the first major event for the building of that ship. in GRSE/ Mazagon sometimes defence secretory/ minister comes to celebrate this event for the first ship of a series

neither the P17a nor P15b been laid let alone launched, the IAC-1 is still in dock getting her super structure. So none of these can claim the title, Kamotra on the other hand is the most complete "indian" ship in the fleet.

It is also the most likely to be marketable, either as is a ASW corvete or reconfigured as a multi role frigate...etc.
Dude they are are under construction

The Project 15B vessel will retain the hull form of Kolkata class destroyers and most of its systems, there will be some significant upgrades. For example, some structural changes in the superstructure will improve stealth and include better sound and infrared suppression. The Project 15B will also differ from the Project 15A through employing a fully flush deck. This will improves stealth because of the smoothness of the overall deck with far fewer angles and corners. The displacement of each Project 15B will be approximately 7,000 tons, a 200 ton addition over the Project 15A Kolkatas.

. Project 15B will also be armed with the new Nirbhay land attack cruise missile (1,000 km range), the hypersonic Brahmos-II anti-ship cruise missile (300 km range) and an Extended Range Surface to Air Missile (ER-SAM) (100 km range).

The Baltic Shipyard will produce four sets of shaft lines for India's newest torpedo-boat destroyers under Project 15B, which will be built at shipyards in Mumbai from 2018 to 2024, a source in the Russian defence industry told Interfax.

The shafts are expected to be ready by 2017, Baltic Shipyard said on its website: “Under the terms of the contract concluded between Baltic Shipyard LLC, Rosoboronexport, and the foreign customer, Baltic Shipyard is to produce four sets of shaft lines by the year 2017.”

The statement notes that the first contracts for such machine parts were fulfilled by the enterprise in the early 1990s, while shafts for the predecessor Project 15A were made in 2007-2009.

The source in the Russian defence industry clarified that the shaft lines were for four Project 15B destroyers, currently being built for the Indian Navy at the shipyards of Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai. Engineers of Northern Design Bureau (St Petersburg) had been involved in designing the blueprint of the destroyer, according to the source.

Indian Defence Minister A K Antony previously stated that his ministry had signed a contract with MDL in January 2011 for the construction of four new Project 15B destroyers. The ships are due to be built sequentially in June 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024.

Three ships of the Project 15A guided-missile destroyers are being constructed in the MDL. The four Project 15B destroyers are essentially upgraded Project 15A ships, with changes in the superstructure that will improve stealth and include better sound and infrared suppression systems. The displacement of each Project 15B ship will be about 8,000 tonnes and they will operate two helicopters.

The Project 15B ships will be armed with the Nirbhay land attack cruise missile, which has a 1,000 km range, the hypersonic Brahmos-2 anti-ship cruise missile, with a 300 km range and Extended Range Surface to Air Missile also known as Barak 8ER, which has a 120 km range
