A glimpse into an ancient history: Emperor Akihito's traditional birthday celebration!

Thank you @Nihonjin1051 !
I'm pretty dilettante when it comes to culture and traditions of far east. But I've heard that the emperor's birthday is a national holiday and that it is festively celebrated in Japan. I've also heard that on this day commoners can visit the palace (and that wearing high heels 're not recommended,as there 're steep pathways in the palace).
Now tell me what was it that the women were wearing? a more stylish kimono???
Have you ever attended Akihito's b'day celebrations?

@Armstrong Dont miss this.

Whats the point ? @Nihonjin1051 didn't even 'mention' me in the list of people he mentioned - I guess my suspicions are true, he doesn't consider me his brother from Pakistan anymore ! :cry:

And I hope you realize that dilettante has become your pet word ! Surely they must've taught you some other words of the English language at school ! :tongue:

Yes, it is known as Juni hitoe , it is written as 十二単. It is traditionally worn by the Imperial Family's female relatives , as well as worn by female courtiers.

Great!
I liked what the man is wearing, it reminds me of my black kimono. oops!
Infact afaik when ppl started wearing kimonos then there was no distinction between what men and women wore, which is great. I think its like the salwar kameez that men and women in Pakistan wear. The modern kimonos 're so different from the traditional ones which used to be wrapped around the body.
