KARACHI: At least nine militant commanders of a proscribed outfit, who were involved in the killing of 44 personnel from frontier works department, were killed on Sunday during a clash with paramilitary troops in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province.

Frontier Corps, on a tip off about the presence of militants, launched a search operation in Awaran district.

On seeing the FC personnel, the militants opened fire on them and in retaliatory fire, nine commanders of the banned outfit were killed, Geo news reported.

The FC seized large cache of arms and explosives from the possession of the militants.

The home department has claimed that those commanders, killed during search operation, were involved in the killing of 44 FWO personnel besides other incidents.

Though FC is meant to help in local law enforcement and carry out border patrol and anti-smuggling operations, its units have been recently used in military operations in Balochistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Great News.. Baluchistan was less of a worry as compared to TTP and Karachi but good to find same wave of cleansing is going on there.

What makes you think that Baluchistan was less of a worry? If your enemy's full focus is on Baluchistan, rest assured, it is not less of a worry to the Pakistani government and to the military. The future of Pakistan belongs to Baluchistan. Baluchistan has the highest quantities of minerals, Gold, oil, Shale and Natural gas waiting to be explored. And it has the most land mass within Pakistan's different states. So IMO, from a long term, future perspective, Baluchistan is a MUCH bigger worry than Karachi.

Less of a worry because there are only a thousand or so terrorists there who despite their decades of backing and support were unable to create any impact. Its like a wound on the top of a finger and hasn't grown since. Comparing it with Karachi or TTP's activities, that was less of a worry.

We recognize the Pakistani security forces are working hard to negate the growing threat of terrorism in the country. The series of attacks in the recent months prove that various militant organizations are conducting their terrorist activities throughout the country. We are going through a critical phase in regards to countering terrorism in the region, and we appreciate all of Pakistan’s efforts in our common fight against terrorism. We have always highlighted Pakistan’s importance in our shared quest for peace, and it remains our wish to see peace prevail throughout the Afghanistan and Pakistan region.
