I also dont drink anymore but not because of religious reasons, many Turks dont drink because of cultural reasons.

Cultural reasons?

Can you explain?

Isn't it the influence of religion that shaped the Turkish culture in a way that it is not an "alcohol-drinking" culture? How is it different?

that because you have not aquired the taste..agreed its an adult taste.. kids dont like anything remotely bitter..
each alcohol tastes different.. do you know what you are talking about?
you might want to remove the 'dumbo' bit .. coz @WebMaster apparently does not appreciate such personal abuse. :)

lol..don't give me your typical hindu bullshit. Losers like you need to drink to feel "manly" and "adult" ...

It is not that I haven't acquired the taste...it is just that alcohol does taste shitty..and everyone knows it. It is just that some people say it damn straight, while other losers don't because it is the only certification to their "manhood" ....

and I know every alcohol taste different...whats your point?

Alcohol is pretty much unavoidable here. So many Muslims I know drink here.

You in some frat bro?

How come alcohol is "Unavoidable"? :D

I don't Drink or Smoke because of " Health Reasons ".

I happen to be a " Health Freak ".......:D

I wonder what percentage of Indians don't drink alcohol. I suspect that it is quite high but lower than 85 %

why is it so shocking not to drink much? That's something good for health issues I do hope for the smoking rate as well, for example I quited smoking 5 months ago... but I think most of us are social drinker. On the other hand, sea side settlements should have a higher percentage than anatolian side if I am not wrong

lolz. muslim retard will not understand what is being talked about .. its better you keep quiet..
first of all retardo, all alcohol does not taste same... have you tried drinking any .. if you found time from drinking camel piss...
sorry @WebMaster .. you might need to ban me...

Shouldn't have done that .

I have lot more respect for my Turkish brothers/sisters... For Muslims it has been said many times in Quran and Hadiths that
"" ALCOHAL IS THE EVIL OF ALL EVILS""....

Ofcourse religion is also a factor but let me explain, alcohol is beeing seen as something that only causes problems, you can drink a beer or two with your friends or a vine at the dinner and nobody would say anything but people will look at you condescending if your regularly drunk, no matter if hes religious or not, its more like a social codex that concerns everybody, also secular people.

For exsample, im 24 and i still cant smoke in front of my parents even thought its not forbidden in Islam, its been considered as disrespectfull against elders.

And to this 85% non drinkers thing, i think that people who only drink at special ocassions also said that they dont drink alcohol when this poll was made.

Nothing like some late evening Raki and on more sophisticated occasions, some Kapadokyan wine :)

I live in a non-Muslim country. Almost everyone drinks here, although at different level.

I dont drink and I have a lot of non-Muslim friends whom I go out with and they respect me for that. It all depends on you.

I watched a Turkish soap just recently. Because there had been so many playing on Pakistan channel with urdu dubbing, I thought I should give it a try too. In that soap, I saw everyone drinking. At times, alcohol was just forced into the scene. It felt the Turk soap producers were trying too hard to portray Turkey as secular. I understand in affluent classes, consumption of alcohol is a symbol of status, but I could not believe every Turk, man or woman, could be drinking.

only places where drinking of alcohol is taboo, its considered secular or liberal to drink alcohol.
There is no relation between two, if you like eating chocolate, eat chocolate, you like alcohol ..drink alcohol... you dont want to.. then no probs dont drink...
as simple as that. some like it some might not.. for various reasons.

Ah, but can this so called 'alcohol' beat mango lassi?
