80 die as drones hit Baitullah’s hideouts

Romeo

I think Gambit put it well:

You ride with Outlaws, You die like outlaws.

You gentle concern for \"human being\" is touching and then again, charity begins at home, Hain ji ?

I think I am not able to get my point across...I dont support millitants...but the way the are being killed leads to innocents being killed, I personally thought Pakistanis were right when they made a ruckus about US drone strikes doing collateral damage. So what happened now...PA fighting the insurgents gives legitimacy to it ? Trying to justify it with the \"ride with the outlaw\" theory is misplaced here.

.
OK. Nevertheless, we will end up eradicating them, like the plague they are. I realize you may think that is misplaced as well -- and that's Ok.

I hope you do that and best of luck with it.

Maybe its not our fault...we are brought up in an environment where human life isn\'t valued like it is in some other places.

Well well, I am actually becoming cautiously optimistic that our relationship with the US and cooperation in this war against the Taliban might actually become productive and mutually beneficial ...

Maybe I am reading too much into this, But I think this implies a much greater degree of cooperation between the US and Pakistan than we have seen in the past. Because of the location and who was targeted, I doubt the US pulled this off on it's own. It seems likely to me that someone at least affiliated with the Pakistani government or the armed forces had to pass on some intelligence to the US and the US trusted that information and acted upon it.

.
well well looks like the americans finally got it right for a change

.
So majority of terrorists killed along with some innocents is a reason to cheer on such acts?

You are missing the forest for the trees, the issue is that is it fair for even a single innocent to be killed because some terrorists are killed too?
I can think of no justification for this, but if you are able to justify and celebrate this...god help your countrymen.

respect man!
The mod AgNoStIc MuSliM is pro-american. No other contry shoud be allowed to bomb Pakistan. If our military had taken the same action i woud not have been complaining, but when a other contry interfers in our business then that contry is fuling the fire.

.
Lets go back in timeline? WHo pulled the first blood? Any idea from your neo-west pathetic piece brain?

First you are upset then you are threatening us all and now name calling wow it clearly shows that American must a hit the jackpot in this strike.

.
GoP should either quit if US is doin this without our permission or else tell the ppl lik me that US has been given permission to carry out such strikes. today if we are welcomin them in our tribal areas then its only a matter of time that tomorrow they will strike elsewhere.

.
i used to be against the drone attacks. But now I am for them.

Pakistan military also coordinates these attacks.

Why would Pakistan or US intelligence do drone attacks unless they had solid intelligence that the targets were militants?

most of the dead are usually foreign terrorists.....in this drone attack most of the dead were afghan, arab and uzbek terrorists.

We should use Pakistani lobby groups in Washington to promote USA to sell us drone technology --or at least to help us arm Pakistani UAV with weapons-capable technology

we already have such a project with Republic of Turkey.

.
If you support Talibans well then you also deserve to be killed.People say Taliban did not do anything in 9/11.Well why did they give refugee to AQ when they knew that AQ is planing on terrorist activities in US.They should have executed AQ instead of giving them refugee and now they are paying for it.

the biggest mistake taleban ever made was to support AQ. After afghan civil war, taleban brought peace to Afghanistan.

during indian airlines hi-jack case, the taleban helped solve the delicate situation.

former members of taleban such as Gulbuddin Hekatyar and Turkistan Bittani are very angry that Mullah Omar was giving safe-haven to these arabs, uzbek and tajik extremists.

after twin US embassy attacks in Africa, taleban SHOULD HAVE surrendered all AQ operatives.

taleban made some very dumb mistakes......and because of this, they pose danger to Afghanistan and now Pakistan.

the only solution is to destroy TTP and the hardcore taleban, and do dialogue with moderate taleban who are against suicide attacks and promoting drug industry to get cash.

taleban who are against this war lord culture in Afghanistan.

we need to make sure Afghanistan gets stable no matter what the cost. But at the same time, we know NATO will leave Afghanistan. We cannot allow an anti-Pakistan regime such as northern alliance.

but we also cannot allow a regime which violates human rights of the people.

very delicate situation which requires smart political solutions

Well the Talibans and foriegn jihadhis are bombing our country already at least 4-5 times a month. Why don't you start protesting about THAT instead of talking about drone attacks. As long as we dont take care of foriegn Jihadhis the drpne attacks will continue.

I think you are very much mistaken, if you actually read AM's posts, you'll actually know that he is very neutral, honest and quite some times patriotic in his posts.
What AM is trying to say is really simple, he's happy that the people, who are up to no good and only cause civilian deaths in Pakistan, are precisely being targeted by the Americans.
Now, giving the knowledge and brains AM is blessed with, he too knows that it's gonna be difficult right now for our government to get hold of the drones technology and possibly persuade the Americans into letting our Army take control of it.
So simply put, we can't stop the drones, not with the current government, it's two-sided, on the other hand, we want these Taliban bastards to be eradicated, but we also want it to do ourselves without foreign intervention.
Now the latter is rather difficult, if you know AM's stance on the situation and actually read into his posts, you would know that he is a big supporter of Pakistan using these drones by herself to go after the Taliban instead of the Americans doing it for us.
However, we all know that isn't possible for some reason right now, so we'll have to live with it, and it eases the pain for us especially when we KNOW that these disgusting people are being bombed with precision guided ammunition by the Americans, as long as INNOCENT people are not being targeted, why should we complain right now? Afterall, the people killed in this funeral were most likely out to set up plans against our nation and against the PA, the Americans made sure that didn't happen.

Therefor, we are glad the Americans did this, even though we'd like to do it ourselves, (that's a whole different story with our government), we should be pleased that these scumbags are getting it left and right, drone attacks in combination with our Army's successes = a vital blow for the Taliban.
The more you attack them and hammer their positions, the weaker they become.
Calling people pro-American is quite ignorant, you should do a check up first and read into the matter before you say such things.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet so here it is, a few more details.

Strike Reportedly Missed Chief of Pakistani Taliban by Hours

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A United States drone strike on a funeral in Pakistan’s tribal areas missed the leader of the Pakistani Taliban, Baitullah Mehsud, by hours on Tuesday, a Pakistani security official said Wednesday.

Mr. Mehsud was not present at the time of the attack, but had gone to pay his respects to a Taliban commander killed in another American drone strike earlier the same day, the official said.

Though the strike on the funeral appeared to have included only two midlevel Taliban leaders among the scores killed, it presented a clear blow to Mr. Mehsud’s operation, showing the deadly proximity of the drone attacks to his areas and even the possibility that he was a target.

The Pakistani military has stepped up its operations against Mr. Mehsud and his followers in South Waziristan, mostly with airstrikes of its own.

A Pakistani police official speculated that the American drone attack could have been coordinated with Pakistani officials, but could not confirm it. A Pakistani intelligence official, however, said that Pakistan had been coordinating drone attacks with the Americans for several months.

TANK/MIRAMSHAH, June 24: Baitullah Mehsud, the chief of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, had a narrow escape on Tuesday when he left only moments before an attack by US drones on the funeral of a militant commander in South Waziristan.
The strike, however, claimed a significant scalp in the shape of Qari Hussain, a lieutenant of Baitullah who was popularly known as Ustad-i-Fidayeen, or teacher of suicide bombers. Circles in TTP had widely tipped him as Baitullah’s successor.

According to residents of Bekh Mary Langara, the scene of the attack, 80 people, 30 militants among them, lost their lives.

Doctors at the government hospital in Miramshah, North Waziristan, said 27 injured people, including children, were brought for treatment.

Taliban denied reports that militant commander Maulvi Sangeen Zadran, who attended the funeral along with three other leaders, had been killed in the attack.

‘Reports about Sangeen Zadran’s death are baseless and his video statement will be released within two days,’ Taliban leader Noorullah told Dawn in Miramshah.

He, however, confirmed that some militant commanders had died, including Maulvi Bilal, Khushdel and Shabir Khan.

The attack took place when a large number of people had assembled for the burial of an Afghan militant commander, Khoze Wali, who had been killed in a similar missile strike.

Some officials believe that commander Sangeen had come from Afghanistan’s Paktia province to attend the funeral of one of his key colleagues and the drones might have picked up his movement.

However, some locals said several Taliban commanders, including Baitullah and Sangeen, attended the funeral, but left moments before the strike.

‘About 5,000 people attended the funeral and the main commanders, including Baitullah, had left before the missiles were fired,’ said an injured man at the Miramshah hospital.

Taliban commander Wali Rehman said the dead had been buried in a mass grave. He said the bodies were mutilated beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, two Khasadars were injured in an explosion near a checkpoint in Miramshah on Wednesday.
