Islam is not a pick and choose religion. Either you are Muslim or you are not a Muslim.

His case is not that of a functionally atheist but namesake Muslim, but that of a functionally atheist namesake Muslim who voluntarily took up practices and culture of another religion. I have offered namaz, been to mass, done seva in gurudwara and have gone for arti and have read all the holy scriptures of the faiths.

At the end of the day, you realise the commonality of the scriptures in encouraging and emphasising the need to be a good human and not bother about anyone else. Irrespective of howsoever the task is.
