Half-literate Mullah types have no skills to make them employable, and thus can not support a family easily enough. Some of them become sexual predators. Its common enough. This is not the first incident of sexual abuse by someone connected to a place of worship, and I'm afraid it would not be the last.

There is a reason why Islam does not enjoin a cerical order / cadre to occupy Mosques. Most Sahaba (Blessings be upon them) were family men.

The person who most influenced my religious thinking as I grew up was a certain cleric who ran his own small business and took nothing from the Mosque. All his services were for the sake of Allah (swt).

The moment religion is used to earn money, it becomes a weapon.

So while @Horus 's post above (Deen-e-Mullah fi-Sabeelillah Fasad) has connotations not directly linked with this crime, it is generally true for those who use religion for personal benefit.

BTW, the people in that area are not satisfied with Police's investigation and are protesting in streets.

Nothing will happen to the mullah. I remember a previous case like this few years back. Never heard anything again. The mullah will be helped and hidden by his fellow deen ke thekedars until the heat settles. Then he'll appear in a totally different village or city preaching about the goodness of his religion.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The body of a 6-year-old boy named Moin on Friday was found on the rooftop of a mosque who had earlier gone missing from the Green Town area.

According to the details, the boy’s family tried to look for him in the neighborhood but failed to find him after which the police filed a missing person’s case on Friday afternoon.

During this time, a person who was in the mosque to offer prayer, called on the authorities and reported that a child’s body was lying on the rooftop of the mosque.

According to the police, Moin was reportedly killed after being raped and it is being suspected by the authorities that the culprit might be someone from the mosque’s administration.

However, the police authorities have sent the body for an autopsy while the boy’s clothes and further evidence have been sent for a forensic analysis.

Rape cases have been on a rise in the city recently. Out of more than 2000 rape cases reported in the province in the last year, almost 200 of the victims have been children.

The government has taken a strict stance against sexual child abuse with Punjab Chief Minister (CM) stressing that resources are being provided to the police and that the authorities should double their efforts in ridding the society of such heinous crime.
