6 Lahore police officials booked after another man dies from alleged torture

But hey they have new uniforms ... :disagree: a potential solution is to create a new police force that will slowly take over responsibilities. Start with the big cities, expand them out to the countryside. Phase out the old murderers. Their corruption is so deep there is no fixing it now.

That is the only solution. By very default the current police force is extremely corrupt through and through.

You'd have to expand the Rangers in numbers while building up a brand new police force.

The society is at such an extreme depth of injustice and corruption that you are going to have to do it sooner or later. The Pakistani society's DNA is such that it only fears the stick when it is seen in action "across the board". That stick needs to be applied to the police equally.

Six police officers, including a sub-inspector, were nominated in a criminal case for allegedly torturing a man, identified as Amir, to death in Lahore, it emerged on Tuesday.

According to a first information report (FIR) lodged on the complaint of the victim's brother, Amir — who worked as a gardener in Lahore's P.F Colony — was summoned at North Cantt police station by Sub-Inspector Zeeshan on August 28. He was then taken to an unknown location, where he was subjected to torture.

According to the victim's brother, Amir had been called by Zeeshan in connivance with a civilian, Rana Mohammad Hanif, who has also been nominated in the FIR.

Meanwhile, Amir's family approached the police station after they were told that Zeeshan had called the deceased, but could not meet the sub-inspector. On September 2, Zeeshan and two unidentified officers handed over Amir, who was suffering from serious injuries, to his family. He was taken to the Services Hospital, where he passed away, the FIR stated.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Arif Nawaz Khan took notice of the incident and ordered that a case be registered against SI Zeeshan, Investigation Officer Nasir Baig and four other officers and asked for a detailed report to be submitted within a day.

Police have arrested Baig and North Cantt police station's Station House Officer Khurram Gul, while Zeeshan is at large.

This is the third such case that has come to light in the past week. On Sunday, a man who was said to be mentally disabled, had died in police custody in Rahim Yar Khan. On the same day, a middle-aged man had passed away in Lahore after allegedly being tortured by Gujjarpura police in an illegal torture cell that was unearthed last month.

IGP Punjab had expressed his displeasure and released a handout on Monday with clear instructions to all the field officers that “no officer will be spared if such crime was reported in any part of the province”.
There needs to be a sense of responsibility as well as accountability in all levels of society. Corrupt police system is only one strand of hair on an entire decaying carcass of corruption. Cutting that one strand of hair won't address serious underlying societal problems which lead to these symptoms.

That is because they arent policemen, they are ghunday and badmash. just like our "politicians": criminals masquerading as respectable men.
These people come from the general populace. Only difference is they end up in the spotlight because of their uniform or political office more so than the common man.

Remember that incident of the woman who beat her servant girl to death and dumped her body in sewage drain? Simply because the girl ate food that wasn't meant for her.

Man PTI is in government in Punjab and if they can't fix the issues over there, what hope we have they will do anything in Karachi. :hitwall:

It's been a year and I see ZERO tabdeeli in Punjab. Usman Buzdaar is total flop show. At the very least some effort should have made to reform the police. We need to voice our concern and dissent, need to run social media campaign to bring Nasir Durrani back to reform murderous Punjab police. A sharif person cannot go to a police station in Pakistan.

Important to point out that IK and many of his ministers up until they assumed office routinely said the deaths of innocent citizens at the hands of the police should be blamed on the PM of the day. Wheres IK and his gang now? Sahiwal happened and reforms were promised. Now Salahuddin happened....we have yet to see any punushment for what happened in Sahiwal let alone Salahuddin.

These murders should be hanged in public.
