Its the Rajputana Rifle from the desert region of Rajasthan. I am guessing that hat is to prevent one from having a heat stroke.

because considering the average its true. majority of the indians come under the LCU category with an average height of about 5'2". the armymen recruited usually come from the Kshatriya castes which is why they are a lot taller than the chinese military men

prove it? i see it every day. i have been living in a naval officers compound and majority of the officers are upper caste north indians (although its started to change)

Stop generalizing then. You may be have seen a thousand naval officers,still thats not good enough to generalize how the world's largerest volunteer army recruits its men. You are spreading the misconception that IA recruits on the basis of caste or that a particular caste has greater chance of making it into IA,which clearly isn't the case.

i have seen it in the army as well. why is it so hard to comprehend? its just like the case of sikhs who get in more because they volunteer more

Different units of the IA wear different type of head gear based on a number of factors.

The ' cowboy hat' is normally worn by the Sappers. It is possible that the General is from the Corps of Engineers hence this cap.
