Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali says four thousand two hundred and fifty megawatt electricity will be added to national grid by June this year.

He was addressing a public gathering after inaugurating Dipalpur Grid Station Up-gradation Project on Sunday. He said China has agreed to invest over 30 billion dollars in Pakistan's energy sector.

The Minister announced that farmers would be provided electricity on cheaper rates.

Meanwhile, an official source privy to Ministry of Water and Power while talking to Radio Pakistan's correspondent Haroon Baloch told that about 2000 megawatts electricity would be added to national grid this year with the completion of Guddu Thermal, Nandipur and Dera Murad Jamali power projects bringing down the power shortfall to 4,000 megawatts during summer.

The government has directed WAPDA to complete these power ventures on time, which include 747 MW Guddu Thermal Power Project, 425-525 MW Nandipur power project at Gujranwala and 410 MW power project at Dera Murad Jamali.

A few hundred megawatts power is also expected to be added to the national grid by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on pay and take policy with revised rates of 16 rupees per unit instead of 22 rupees per unit. The government is negotiating on this with IPPs.

A concerted effort is also underway to improve recovery and management of the power system under a policy devised by the government, which is aimed at checking pilferage, reduce lines losses and increase electricity supplies.

According to the source, directives have been issued to all DISCOs to stop power supplies on feeders with 95 percent power pilferage and line losses. Accordingly, the load shedding duration at feeders with 90 percent line losses will be 20 hours, while feeders with 70 percent losses are directed to carry out 16 hours load shedding.

Because of implementation of on the new policy, the government has succeeded to increase its revenues by 22 billion rupees during the last quarter of 2013 against the revenue earned during the corresponding period of 2012.

The government's power management policy is also being received well by the masses. In reaction to strict compliances taken by PESCO, eleven feeders were shut down in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf MNA Fayaz Zaman Orakzai in a meeting with Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali assured absolute stoppage of power pilferage in Hangu district. It was agreed by the government and locals that electricity meters would be installed to the houses of those consumers, who are ready to pay their bills in time.

Excelent job, be even more strict. Make sure thieves dont get away.

Pakistan's whole infrastructure for electricity needs to be moved to underground levels to stop energy theft and also new wiring and transmission lines and other gadgets to prevent loss of energy while transmissions

"Hum loadshedding khatam kar dein gey!".

Yeah, we can see that. :D

even to setup a coal plant govt will need 3-4 years. there is no shortcut to decade negligence of power issue.
if govt is unable to do so by 2017 then it will be real failure, dont expect it to be solved before 2017, simply put its impossibe unless govt find massive gas out of the blue:D

It Will Not Work .. If they can steal gas from underground , Stealing Electricity Is lot easier .
