For example, for India, anyone who earns more than $1.25 a day is apparently "middle class". In other countries this is different as they aren't as shameful as Indians in hiding their poverty.

Lower Middle and upper middle classes are sociological concept referring to a social group. They differ in a number of ways, If we talk about Average income then the estimated data is something like this-

BPL - INR27-30/Day i.e About 10000-12000/Yr
Lower Class: 12000-20,000/yr.

Lower Middle Class: INR 20,000-30,000/month
Middle Class: INR 30,000-80,000/months
Upper Middle Class: INR 80,000-150,000/months

Standard of Living Differ country to country Suppose 1$ you cant Buy Meal in US or Europe but in India you can Easily Afford It.also there Whereas Govt Schemes provided to these Lower Income groups Such as List of government schemes in India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They:o: .. Aren't you a Pakistani living in United States ? And we don't consider your country as an arch rival but as a security threat.

And yes 15% of our population are also malnourished and it's indeed a shame for every Indian in general and Congress + it's allies in particular as they were responsible for this sorry state of my country. But that does not mean that we Indians shouldn't take care of our own security and counter threat emanating from our neighborhood. As for our nukes it was mainly developed for maintaining a credible deterrence against China who were already a nuclear power by that time.

Really :o: 140/44 = 3.18

Does that fuking matter where I am living at, what my drivers license number is, or who my forefathers were and what part of Africa? When idiots don't have a factual response, they resort to stupid shiit like these silly posts written by people who either didn't finish high school, or were hired for a dollar a day to be online Indian propagandists.

Your entire security establishment is obsessed with Pakistan. Who did you fight 4 wars with? Mars or Pakistan? Jee, it was the later. What did your PM say a week ago in Bagladesh? Crap about Pakistan. What did your military leaders were saying after the little 200 paratroopers were sent to Miyanmar (that ALSO right at the border, not DEEP inside)?? The rhetoric of "special operation" inside Pakistan (special operation meaning we'll send people in Pakistan and will never expect them back, that's what makes it VERY special).

I've heard that your PM house has Pakistan's maps in every room, even in bedrooms. That's what your leadership dreams about in their sleep...the dream of conquering Pakistan.

But when the other sides starts deployment and moves to FOB's, all heavy duty tires in India deflate and then your PM calls NS, "agreeing to not making hostile statements from both sides". He's done this stunt twice this year. Its like a penis without balls and it never works!!!! lol. I couldn't come up with a better analogy, sorry.

:what: dude... Pakistan's total population is 20 crore while out of the 110 crore of Indian population, 60 crore don't have bathrooms to poo and 40 crores don't have a single bulb in their homes(if have any)...so give me a break and buzz off.

Okay enough of the India Pakistan stuff
This is disgusting to say the least, that people starve while we see whose starve more.
In Pakistan the causes are mostly IDP's, due to war, natural disasters, or movement from other countries such as Afghanistan. Also couple that with areas where there are droughts, here I am thinking of places like Thar, where famine and drought brought about starvation while there was no real action to correct it.
How the normal Pakistani can help :-
  • If you live near camps get your neighbourhood to "adopt a few families" where you pay for their food or deliver them monthly rations.
  • If you live far from any camps, look for charities that work. The army has bank accounts to better the life of IDP's in war stricken areas and the army can do a lot for them.
  • Visit the poorer areas of the city and ask around to find families who deserve charity.
  • Go give your MNA these figures and ask him to discuss measures to prevent these.
  • Ask UN for a detailed break up of the areas where there is most starvation and demand there be accountability on how and why it happened
  • For those in areas which are prone to flooding, there needs to be more active measures to stop flooding, again go to your MNA and tell him to stop fooling around with weird projects like buses, and first build dams and strengthen river banks.

All of you please contribute, the Indian members can help us to understand how to do more to control under nourishment. Ignore the Pakistan India part above this post, that is just idiocy at who starves more and being proud about that.

Depends on what you define as hungry and malnourished.

For example, for India, anyone who earns more than $1.25 a day is apparently "middle class". In other countries this is different as they aren't as shameful as Indians in hiding their poverty.

Around 2/3 of Indian kids are stunted in growth due to terrible conditions in India... How about that

1.25 is the poverty line which is not set by India FYI

One of the most important steps would be getting a handle on the issue of loadshedding - it contributes greatly to unemployment as industries, workshops, factories and businesses suffer from it. Unemployment breeds poverty which in turn results in under-nourishment.

Lets compare some data with Bangladesh, country whose GDP per capita is almost half of India's.

1. Proportion of household practising open defecation: India (as on 2005) 55% Bangladesh (2007) 8.4%
2.Proportion of children aged 12-23 months who are fully immunized: India 44% Bangladesh 82%
3.Proportion of children who started breastfeeding within 24 hours of birth: India 55% Bangladesh 89%
4.Proportion of children aged 9-59 months who received vitamin A supplements: India 18% Bangladesh 88%
5.Proportion of the population with sustainable access to improved water source: India 88% Bangladesh 97%
6.Proportion of diarrhoea affected children treated with oral re-hydration therapy: India 39% Bangladesh 81%
7. Access to improved sanitation (2010 data): India 34% Bangladesh 56%

There are many other parameters regarding social development indicators available but I do not wish to overload this post with numerical figures. In short, South Asian countries including Pakistan, despite all their hurdles in terms of militancy, democratic crisis and governance failure from time to time for the last seventy odd years, have not performed worse than India, if not surpassing it in many cases. Even poorer countries like Nepal, Bhutan are catching up fast with Indians whose progress in improving the quality of living has been pathetically slow. What is more disappointing is the fruit of the high growth rate had been hardly beneficial for the lowest 0.7-0.8 billion destitute despite so many government programmes for many reasons. Unless Indian leaders pay heed to this much ignored crisis, GDP growth rates, poverty reduction success stories have no value at all.

All of you please contribute, the Indian members can help us to understand how to do more to control under nourishment. Ignore the Pakistan India part above this post, that is just idiocy at who starves more and being proud about that.
Definitely I will try to write in much details. This is not a matter of winning between two losers off course.

These figures show serious problem but no one like yo be well fed slave hence comes the defence spending. . We have to eliminate this security complex first then poverty eill be addressed itself.

no value to percentage here.....

as per Pakistani logic.... a student who gets 11 out of 20 marks is better than the student who gets 8 out of 10 marks

Are you serious, I mean are you really serious??
Why do I not counter and say that finish the massive corruption in the civilian government, increase salaries based on output rather then across the board salary increases. If parts of Wapda can not get their ratio of electricity theft down, fire them or fine their salary. That will give the people incentive to pointing out electricity thieves. Also the same goes for Sui which has been mismanaged and stripped, or PIA which always demands money and can not give any real advantage. SO before you go on about defence budgets, why do we not start from correcting these problem, the money saved could subsidize the food for EVERY Pakistani to very affordable levels.
Oh did I mention Pakistan steel mills or any other government organisation not able to sustain itself. Only ones should be hospitals who should provide subsidised care, the other organisations, whether Lesco, Pepco, or whatever should perform

Yes it does as ones opinion is usually influenced by where one come from as it is in your case.

Oh! really.
Your entire security establishment is obsessed with Pakistan. Who did you fight 4 wars with? Mars or Pakistan?
Just because you say something doesn't necessary mean it's true. And we aren't talking about Indo-Pak War. Are we ? I merely said we don't consider your country(Pakistan) as our arch rival. And as you said we have fought 4 Wars and our relationship with you hasn't improved hence we consider your country as a Security threat.
What did your PM say a week ago in Bagladesh? Crap about Pakistan. We merely said we would eliminate terrorists who are plotting against India from foreign lands. The word Pakistan was never mentioned. Why should Pakistanis take offence by that statement unless you are ones who is aiding all these terror outfits. And we merely said what any country facing terrorism would have said.
I've heard that your PM house has Pakistan's maps in every room, even in bedrooms. That's what your leadership dreams about in their sleep...the dream of conquering Pakistan.
 Really.. So you have been to Modi's bedroom and also know what he dreams about. Now tell me who's paranoid.

If the FAO data is to be believed, then I wonder why the body mass index of Pakistanis is higher and healthier than that of Indians?

In terms of average BMI (Body Mass Index), Pakistanis and Chinese are at 23, Indians 21 and Bangladeshis 20.5, all within normal range of 18.5 to 24.9. The average values of BMI for Europe, Middle East and North and South America are much higher.

Haq's Musings: World Population: America Significantly Outweighs Asia

6th grader science concept.

malnourishment is deficiency of nutrients not subject to weight or height of person.

A person can be overweight but still be malnourished.

However for your mental health, lets just agree FAO is false and fake :D
