206 puja mandaps, 27 cattle markets to be brought under CCTV coverage: DMP chief

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2012 (BSS)-Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed today said closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs) will be installed at all the 27 cattle markets and 206 puja mandaps in the city to ensure a foolproof security.
"Fake currency identification machines will also be installed in each of the cattle markets in the city in consultation with their lease holders to stop spreading fake notes," he said while briefing newsmen on the security arrangements ahead of the Eid- ul-Azha and Durga Puja at DMP media center.
"DMP areas have been brought under the security net since October 15 and it will be continued till October 31 for smooth celebration of the festivals," he said.
"Against the backdrop of the attacks on the Buddhists temples in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar, we have alerted the law enforcers to stop recurrence of such incidents," he also said.
"A central security control center will be installed at Dhakeshawri temple to monitor overall security arrangement ahead of Durga Puja while control room will also be set up at each of the bus stands, railway stations and launch terminal to ensure safe journey of the home goers ahead of the festivals," he said.
The DMP chief suggested the city dwellers to take help of the police in case of carrying huge amount of cash and slaughtering cattle at a single place during the Eid-ul-Azha. Among others, additional DMP commissioners Abdul Jalil Mandal, Abdul Jalil, joint commissioners Mili Biswas and Sheikh Maruf Hasan were also present at the briefing.
