Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 27 (BSS)- The government is preparing a 20-year New Dhaka Structure Plan for building the capital as a modern and scenic city.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this in the House today replying to a tabled question from treasury bench member Fazle Noor Tapash.

The 20-year plan from 2016 is being prepared for 1528 square
kilometers area of the city reviewing the Dhaka Structure Plan
(1995-2015) and Detailed Area Plan (2010-2015) with the financial
support of the Asia Development Bank, she said.

The Prime Minister said the incumbent Mohajote government has undertaken a number of projects and decisions to build Dhaka as a modern capital city of a happy and prosperous country in light of Vision 2021.

She said the work on Purbachal New Town Project, Uttara (3rd
phase) Project and Jilmili Housing Project is nearing completion.
In these projects, she said, some plots of different sizes have
already allotted and process for allotment of some others is
going on.

She said with a view to arranging housing facilities for people for every class and group the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakka (Rajuk) has decided to construct 50,000 flats in these three housing areas. Besides, five more such projects are now under process.

The Prime Minister said the government has also undertaken a
plan to construct three satellite cities around Dhaka City to
reduce influx of people in the capital. The satellite cities will
be constructed at Dhamrai of Dhaka, Sirajdikhan of Munsiganj and
Singair of Manikganj and these would be well connected with the
capital city with roads and flyovers, she said.

She said a number flyovers and new roads are being constructed in the city aimed at improving the road management. A 300-feet wide Purbachal Link Road and 100-feet wide road from Pragati Sarani to Balu River are being constructed to link up city's west with east.

Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover from Jatrabari to Palashi would
be completed by March 2013 and the flyover is expected to help
immensely resolve the city's traffic congestion, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the government has undertaken a plan to
construct underpass at Fakirapool intersection and grade
separator (flyover and road underpass) from Palashi to Gabtali.

She said three wholesale kitchen markets are being built at
Mohakhali, Aminbazar and Jatrabari in Dhaka City at a cost of
Taka 313 crore. Seventy percent work on the markets has already
been finished. The construction of the markets is scheduled to
complete by 2013, she added.

I guess election is getting close, so there will be a lot of castles built in the air. Bangladesh with high gdp growth, becoming middle income country, flyovers and roads will make Dhaka look like Singapore, but Rohingya's will not be let in, as they are Jamati and vote bank for BNP. Lanat on la Hasina, sorry to borrow your words Zakir Bhai.

With all these big talks they have no shame about a small project like Jatrabari flyover which had to stop its work in midway few days ago for lack of finance but I feel ashamed seeing with a population of 160 million a govt. can't just smoothly complete a flyover let alone those blah blah blah.
