ISLAMABAD, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least 188 people were killed and 436 others injured in 28 bomb blasts as the militants raised the number of attacks across Pakistan despite the government's initiatives to start peace talks during the month of September, according to official statistics.

Out of a total of 28 bomb attacks, one incident of suicide nature killed 85 people and injured over 100 others in northwestern region of the country.

On Sept. 22, two suicide bombers stormed a Christian church in northwest provincial capital of Peshawar and killed 85 people and left 145 others injured.

According to security officials, the incident took place when the suicide bombers blew up their explosive-laden jackets inside the church when around 600 people were leaving the premises after finishing their weekly Sunday prayers.

A militant group named "Jandola" claimed responsibility for the attack. Local media reported that the group belonged to the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) but later on Pakistani Taliban denied the attack as well as any link with the Jandola group by saying that it was an attempt to sabotage the peace efforts.

In another incident on Sept. 27, at least 19 people were killed and 44 others injured when Pakistan Taliban bombed a bus carrying government employees in Peshawar. Bomb disposal squad said the bomb was placed inside a carton placed under the back seats of the bus and it was detonated through a time device.

On Sept. 29, a powerful car bomb blast hit the busy street of Peshawar city when people were busy in shopping and killed 42 people besides injuring at least 100 others. Pakistan Taliban once again denied any link with the attack.

Regarding the number of causalities, Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the worst hit region with 10 attacks that killed 154 and injured 331 others.

During the month of August, the restive province remained unhurt as there was not a single causality reported in any blast. But, after the main political parties of the country unanimously reached a resolution on Sept. 9 at the All Parties Conference (APC) in Islamabad to pursued peace talks as their first option to counter terrorism, the number of bomb attacks increased.

Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan was second most hit region where 17 people were killed and 63 others sustained injuries in 12 attacks. There was only one bomb attack in southern province of Sindh which killed three people besides injuring 12 others.

Pakistan's most populated eastern province of Punjab, which contains 60 percent of total population, remained unhurt as no incident of terrorism occurred there during the specific period.

Militants carried out five bomb attacks in the country's northwestern tribal regions that border Afghanistan, killing 14 persons including nine security personnel and injuring 30 others.

Official statistics revealed that the terrorists carried out 28 bomb attacks, including a twin suicide blast, at 28 targets during the period, killing 171 civilians as well as 12 personnel from security forces and five policemen.

On Sept. 15, Pakistan Taliban killed two senior officers of Pakistan's army as they targeted their vehicle with a bomb in the country's restive northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In a statement, Army Spokesman said the improvised explosive device (IED) hit the vehicle of the army officers in Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that killed one Major General and a Lieutenant Colonel along with a soldier when they were coming back after visiting the front posts near Pak-Afghan border.

Overall, the militants conducted three direct attacks on security forces during the month, killing 12 personnel besides injuring 26 others.

The majority of the bomb blasts were conducted with improvised explosive device (IED) by planting it on the roadsides or fixing it in cars and motorcycles.

Most of the attacks were left unclaimed but the attacks on government and army officials were claimed by Pakistan Taliban.

Analysts feared that the hidden forces that did not like any truce between Pakistani government and Taliban would further increase the attacks on civilians in coming days to sabotage all efforts leading towards peace in the country.

i'm afraid there will be more surge in violence in coming days, with regards to international forces leaving afghanistan and a turf war between we all know who...

28 bomb attacks in one month, approx 1 bomb blast/perday. Really worrisome, Pak govt must do something to save the innocents life.

What surprises me is that despite being a sufferer of so much terrorism, some Pakistanis still find it in them to call terror attacks in India, a drama.. Really shameful..

My heart goes out to families whose reality of existence changed in matter of seconds by losing a father, mother, brother, son or a sister..

And the frequency is just too unsettling...

India should freeze all borders , Diplomatick and financial relations with Pakistan so there virus dosent spills over into India

India is the reason for terrorism in Pakistan in the first place, Pakistan ISI and Military groomed militants and terrorist to use against India. Now Pakistan love affair with terrorism has soured and they are in the receiving end.

Pakistan still considers terrorist attacker on any other county then Pakistan especially the USA and Israel as heroes and martyrs.

Its a little hard to sell rather unintelligent religious bigots that its Martydrdom and Heroic to attack people of other countries that you don't like but not OK to attack people and places in your own country you don't agree with. Bible says you reap what you sow, enjoy the whirlwind Pakistan. It looks like Pakistan love affair with terrorism is coming to an end.
