Couple of points-My point is this: Vietnam would have fared better had it aligned itself with China. You see how China invested $40 billion in Pakistan this year? The same kind of financial investment would have taken place with Vietnam had the latter been an all weather ally and friend of China.
1. A source for $40 billion investment, i am skeptical about the figures.
2. China has always abandoned Pakistan, when it came to wars with India, despite promises. One of them even costed Pakistan half its nation.
You cannot expect the Russians to intervene on your behalf against China. They will not; they didn't even do the same for India, which is also one of their major partners, against China.
India ties with Soviets were not so great in 1962. But look carefully Russian have and continue to assist our strategic weapons programs and they do not come with "not to be used on China" tag on them
Besides, India does not seek foreign military intervention. India merely needs uninterrupted supply of weapons and spares in case of war
This is true for any nation.Russia recognized no friends , only strategic interests and how said interest can benefit them for the time being.
