There was nothing wrong with that involvement , if you see learn islamic history, you will learn few facts and ideas...

1- One can take the side of Muslims and also take help from non-muslims to counter aggressive non-muslims ( Zia took US help against USSR to help afghans muslims)

2- One cannot help non-muslims to kill muslims (Musharraf helping USA to kill innocent afghan muslims)

don't be so naive you people look at everything in black or white or Muslim v non-muslim it's not as simple as that it's a shame you never thing about what's best for Pakistan .Why only muslims you forgot what he did to Non-Muslims in pakistan like putting that horrible blasphemy law into place ? how about crapping all over the pakistani education system people still suffering from that today. He never cared about muslims he was just another dictator that used islam as a political tool he didn't have a problem killing muslims like Palestinians or his good friend Bhutto now did he when he saw the chance to come to power .
It has nothing to do with Islam for me you have to look at the bigger picture you can think zia was a warrior for Islam but he was nothing but another puppet of the U.S and the resulting blowback from getting involved in that war was only detrimental in the long run for pakistan .
Afghans invited the soviets there,they always hated Pakistan and never wanted Pakistan involving itself in their business it was their problem we should have remained neutral,stayed out of the conflict and allowed them to deal with it between themselves .It's my dream that pakistan does not involve itself in anymore conflicts and starts looking after itself instead.

Very True, I seem to remember a quote of Jinnah after seeing large-scale bleeding (both sides I'm sure, but muslims more suffered (you may not agree though)...I do remember very old text book of Pak studies (later Govts removed alot of deep down stuff) which referred how a train reached here in Pak with a compartment of human organs and a message " A gift of Eid for Pakistanis"....After seeing terrible riots, Jinnah said if it was happening then I would have not decided for separate country...as they were assuming in 1940s resolution that their will be STATES where muslims are in majority and migration of people (no where either PK or Indian part) was not a part and plan of at political partition plan...

but what God (Allah) do is the always best....God chosen us to keep fighting for the global cause (international levels) at afghan border and NOT TO let USSR occupy it, if we were united then perhaps I feel India would not have fighted in the Afghanistan ...If we have been not the part of wars (sometimes I think) perhaps we have been not a Neuclear power then...I believe what do God do is for a good cause but we understand very late...
