Indian Navy to Receive 6 MiG-29K/KUB Aircraft in 2014

A naive question - Does it make sense to have 2 types of fighter aircraft on such small carriers? as we need maintenance facility weapons, spares, separate technicians etc etc on these carriers, Not sure whats the logic. in fact NLCA doesn't make sense on these when 29K is deployed. Any expert...

Thanks for the info, but hey what happened to first flight in 2015 Q1, Why 2 more years of delay. When ADA/HAL know that MK2 is what Forces want why they are delaying it even further, Not sure if this would be relevant for forces beyond 2025 ( I mean they should ideally induct the all the 8...

A new year for DRDO (lots of info guys)

Last I heard was "During this test the Kaveri did well, generating 49.2 KiloNewtons (KN) of “dry thrust”, marginally less than its target of 51 KN. But there was a serious shortfall in “wet thrust”; the Kaveri generated just 70.4 KN, well short of the targeted 81 KN." Kaveri engine to fly...

We are doing all the three anyway i.e. we are upgrading M2Ks better than UAE's, will be upgrading MKI with AESA provided something operational is available from ruskies and will also be buying FGFAs :).

100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

Looking at this configuration anyone would feel it makes better sense to buy this bird for operational purpose and 2 Vs 6 M2K, makes financial sense as well. I am loving this bird.

100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

Also we use the same rule then MKI would cost us 260 to 325 million $ over its life time, considering 400 crore as its flyaway cost. so where are we saving money on MKI and wasting on Rafale. @ Sancho, Abingdonboy

100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

If we use this thumb rule then rough figures could be ( for 30 billion $ ) the lifetime cost could be 240 million $ per plane and if we consider the flyaway cost then it could be 240/3 = 80 million $, which I feel is not bad for this bird. it looks like GOI is dragging its feet looking at 30...

100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

My understanding is its life cycle cost ( 20 - 30 billion) and what people are comparing is flyaway cost which would be much less, A year or 2 back Somewhere I was heard that usually the life cycle costs are around 3 times the flyaway cost for western aircrafts and this would be 4 to 5 times...

100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

Well Thats why I gave source which is ABC for 6 billion Aus Dollars which would be 5.2 Billion US, Even if we consider it to be 3.7 billion then it would cost 154.2 million a pop :) 120 million $ a piece for Rafale looks like a good deal compared to what Aus has paid. ( ofcouse the price would...

100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

Are you sure this is a cost effective solution as your Ally Australia paid $6 billion for 24 copies ( ofcourse it included 10 year running cost + training) which means each Hornet cost whopping 250 million Aus dollars or 218 million US $!!! Source : 7.30 Report - 15/03/2007: Nelson stands by...
