I am sorry but i disagree. Surface vessels still form the most important element in ASW warfare. Submarine is a stealth platform using its strength to the fullest. It is almost impossible for a helicopter to find a submarine on its own (it will be like finding a needle in a haystack). ASW ship...
afaik, the weight carried by infantry can go as high as 40 kgs. However, I would like the weight of any such futuristic systems to go below 20 kgs. If not, we could always look at something like this :)

It would seem that they would like to play a part in the FINSAS program. If so, then it is not a bad idea IMO. The system seems impressive enough but might require some major modifications to take care of indian conditions.
I really feel that the AL has been very proactive in maintaining a very sensible & prudent "balanced" relationship with countries like india and china and this IMO will pay dividends in due course.

What I meant by CSL was that it is the only yard (in india) with the ability to build such huge ships!
I personally do not want to see LPD's if I could help it (which I can't:P). It is the IN which thinks they will be useful in disaster relief (and nothing more)! I am not advocating "5"...
I do not prefer the san antonio class per say. I prefer a LPD as it is comparatively cheap to make and can be taken up by smaller yards. IN is not planning for super duper ships with world class amenities. It wants a workhorse which is simple and rugged (and thus cheap). The only yard currently...
