You are right, it's easier to built a twin engine aircraft, but it could be MMRCA, not to replace (low cost jf-17) we can use two ow power engine (60-65kN) and easily maintain, cost around 40-45 million dollar per unit, but we are talking about a low cost single engine 5th generation aircraft...
