Project Azm design will be local. No ToT of an already built aircraft. Yes there will be foreign input and almost certainly a foreign engine. I think PAF does not want to get in a situation of earlier block JF17s with a short legged fighter with limited ordinance (although still capable and the...
(Post corrected)
Its the "small" things that count in the end. An additional hard point, more internal fuel, better wing structure, placement of landing gear, position and range of the gun.
The aerodynamics of the gun on the World War II era P53 mustang was better than that of the JF 17 60 -...
Hi
We are talking about additional hard points for weapons and possibly plumbed( if under wings)as well. The chin hard point will be for a targeting pod and/or maybe ECM pod.
If you invest millions (or more) on a plane and trust it to be the backbone of your fleet , logically it should be able...
The current L gear configuration on the JF17 prevents moving hard points 3 and 5 closer to the center for possible addition of another hard point under the wings(structure allowing) and this gear configuration also prevents additional had points under the fuselage.
Overall JF17 is a great...
PAF should not dilly dally like they did with Mirage 2000 in the 90s and F16s/J10s in the early 2000s. They should get the Vixen with IRST asap if available. Funds can be made available once decision is made ... Funds may be an issue but nothing that cannot be handled/managed.
The Chinese are...
From the start the avionics of the JF17 were to be western but due to sanctions they had to settle with Chinese systems which reportedly are performing better than expected.
In an interview by a PAF officer(cannot remember who) it was mentioned that later they found out that they had access to...
On the JF 17, the wing area, position of the gun and the landing gear are the main hurdles in additional hard points. The design being mainly Chinese, one wonders if this was a bit deliberate to make it cost effective as well as to make room for additional capability that was to be provided by...
The PAF even changed their official mandate from being " Second to None" .... to "to provide, in synergy with other inter-services, the most efficient, assured and cost effective aerial Defence of Pakistan."
This is mainly because of the time wasted mucking around in the 90s and early 2000s...
For the coming 7 to 10 years PAF will have almost no answer to the Rafale just like it did not have any to the SU30MKI for 7 to 8 years until they finally ordered AIM120Cs in 2006. History it seems is going to be repeated in more than one way in the next 10 years.
I wish it was that simple. Tot is never a blank check. Forward sales of tot are highly complicated and with multiple tot agreements it never going to happen when the end customer is Pakistan.
If you do a bit or research you will find out that any such Turkish program is going to have significant input from other western countries/companies including but not limited to engine from the US(P&W or GE) or Eurojet, other input from SAAB(Sweden) and BAE(UK) and it would not be a surprise if...
It seems that the 2020s are going to be a sequel of the 90s. The only difference is that a plan B in terms of J10 Firebird/Vanguard. JF17s cannot replace the F16s. Neither can the J10s though.
Makes sense. Already around a hundred JF17s will have the RD93 which has proven to be quite reliable. Better to continue with it as it works well. Commonality will thus be achieved as well among the first 3 blocks at least making it cost effective.
