Iranian Navy | News and Discussions

ALCON, The link/coordinates from that Russian forum lead to the Bostanu shipyards, as does the image. Odd thing is, this image from the Russian site is NOT from GE so it likely from a commercial satellite. That section of Bostanu's shipyard hasn't shown any vessels of this configuration going...

Saudi warship hit by a Houthi missile off the coast of Yemen

ALCON, Just to clarify, when I say it could have been a "suicide boat", I don't actually mean someone was onboard, just that whatever this was, was on a one-way trip. The video posted on the Hoot/VA-111 just adds evidence that this WASN'T that, look at the incredible speed it moves through...

Saudi warship hit by a Houthi missile off the coast of Yemen

ALCON, IMHO, 1) 100% not an AshM attack as was initially talked about, the incoming "bogey" is moving much too slow for that. 2) Likewise, I think any talk of this being a torpedo is equally incorrect. While the speed is about right, a standard torpedoes do NOT create that much surface...

    Iranian Air Defense Systems

AmirPatriot & PeeD, My apologies for being late to the party, hadn't been around for a couple days and apparently I missed out. As to the question of my employment, while I won't say what I actually do for a living, I can say that working for the CIA ain't it, for a lot of reasons (for one...

Meet Owj: Iran’s First Indigenous Fighter Jet Engine

ALCON, I'd actually love to talk about MC 2002, but I think this thread has been horribly derailed enough as is. I'd advise somebody make a dedicated thread and take the conversation there and away from a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with naval strategy. Thanks

Saudi warship hit by a Houthi missile off the coast of Yemen

ALCON, Some comments on this development: - This Saudi frigate is NOT US-designed built, it's French. It's an export frigate design from the 1980s. The only US-built vessels in the Royal Saudi Navy are a handful of missile corvettes and missile boats. - The Al Madinah class have a somewhat...

Meet Owj: Iran’s First Indigenous Fighter Jet Engine

Azadpakistan2009, That's because the J85 image you posted is 100% NOT the -21 variant but an earlier model, the -13. In fact, the image you posted is the first image that pops up on Google for the -13 variant. You can confirm this by looking very closely at the plague on the top of the engine...

Meet Owj: Iran’s First Indigenous Fighter Jet Engine

AZADPAKISTAN2009, On your post #17, the top image is NOT Iranian, but French. It is a French demonstrator from about ~10 years ago (a predecessor to the NEURON project). The image was used as a stock image for Iranian UAV stories for some reason and has been mistakenly used ever since. Your...

    Gazans military capabilities

IranDefence, That MANPAD is definitely NOT an Iranian-built Misagh (which is itself, an Iranian-built/Chinese designed QW-1). It's the old SA-7/9K32 Strela-2. While not "useless", its usefulness against Israeli combat aircraft is marginal at best.

    saba 248

ALCON, While Iran does manufacture the turboprop variant of the TV3, IIRC, there's no definitive evidence they are ready to manufacture a re-engineered turboshaft version. Also, we can be 100% certain that engine is NOT be used to power this Saba. The images of it under assembly strong point...

Iranian president orders work on nuclear propulsion device

The SC, Problem is, the Arak reactor project is closed per the "Iran Deal". The reactor core under-construction was removed. There are conflicting reports as to whether the core was "filled with concrete". The heavy-water facility nearby however is still operational.

Iranian president orders work on nuclear propulsion device

Soheil, Good to see your lack of clarity hasn't changed one bit!

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

ALCON, Just got a lead on the possible source of the AK-630 in Iran. Just as Iraqi aircraft attempt to flee to Iran during the 1991 Gulf War, there was also attempts by the Iraqi Navy to do the same. For the most part, they were annihilated but a few vessels managed to make it through. We...

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

Vevak, You're comparing apples and oranges. We are talking about using the Mesbah-1 as a de facto (but questionable) CIWS so comparing the amount of deck space it would take up compared to the Fajr-27 is pointless. Now IF the Mesbah-1 was to be fitted to say, a Sina-class missile boat, the...

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

ALCON, Indeed the Mesbah-1 is an ungainly and impractical design for use on naval vessels. Weapons systems, regardless of type, need to be COMPACT if you are planning to fit them to naval vessels. The Mesbah-1 is arguably the LEAST compact design Iranian naval engineers could come up with and...

Iranian president orders work on nuclear propulsion device

Soheil, Actually that overhaul process isn't quite finished yet (3rd and final Kilo sitting in dry dock right now). Strictly speaking, Iran doesn't need to develop nuclear maritime propulsion to try and convert the Kilos to "boomers". Personally though, that would be a terrible waste of...

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

Vevak, With all due respect, trying to claim a vessel is "better" simply because it has greater tonnage/longer length is about as uninformed as it gets. Case in point: There are any number of vessels around the world today that are smaller than Iran's Mowj-class and MUCH better armed and have...

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

JEskandari, That does seem to be a factor and if so, should encourage Iran to continue their work with multi-hulled vessels. Also, if I was the folks running Incat (who built it), I'd be using that episode as a selling point of the company's workmanship!

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

ALCON, Indeed, few if ANY reduced-RCS actually claim to be "stealthy" enough to defeat an incoming radar-guided AshM. With naval vessels, which have MASSIVE RCS to begin with, the purpose of reducing its RCS is to: A) Reduce your apparent size on enemy radars, so as to confuse them as to what...

    New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

ALCON, My first post here at this forum & y'all look like you're having plenty of fun so why not hop in? My take on the comparison of NK's 77meter Corvette (both variants) and the Mowj-class Frigates: -Point Defense: To date, the Mowj's defense against AshMs is definitely inferior to both...
