Celebrating Holi in Utah USA 2014

Have never felt that playing Holi itself with colours and water had much religious connotations. For most people it is primarily the celebration of the coming of spring.

India abstains from voting against Sri Lanka at UNHRC

Probably India saw that the motion was going to be passed without its vote making any difference to the results. Since either option had its costs, abstaining makes sense.

India Worked With Muslims to Build Trust and Beat Polio

This polio free certification for India makes me very happy. What it gives me most is hope that the country with all its contradictions, its poverty, its illiteracy can still come together in one giant effort to do good things.

    The Great Maratha Empire

One thing which puzzles me is that there are hardly any monuments, buildings, palaces left behind which speak of the glory of the Maratha empire. I have lived in Pune, the seat of the Maratha empire and have hardly come across anything impressive apart from forts dotted around Pune which were...

Islamic law to be enshrined in British law as solicitors get guidelines on 'Sharia compliant' wills

Maybe in your opinion women should stay at home and not build their own careers but this view is not shared by the millions of Muslim women in the UK who study, build careers and think that they are equal to other men. You also may think that a man or a woman shoudn't have sexual relations...

Actually no. According to the UK laws, a person can divide his/her assets in a will in whatever manner they wish to. What this guidance does is provide information to lawyers on what the sharia system of inheritance is and how to go about drafting a will if a person wishes to follow the sharia...

Planet Fitness kicked Muslim woman out for wearing head scarf

It could be argued the headgear is unsafe to use near the gym machines. That could easily snag on the machine and cause her to choke. She could have used a more tight fitting head covering.

It’s cheaper: Dealers import rickshaw parts from China, assemble them here

These are cycle rickshaws of the following type. The market for this is very limited and there was never a large company manufacturing these. These cycle rickshaws were always made in the local fabrication shop and were based on cycles made by cycle companies. The government has been trying...

Larkana: Hindu worship place set ablaze by miscreants over ‘alleged burning of holy pages

Looking at the pictures posted, there is a case of blasphemy against the Hindu Gods by these people. What exactly does the blasphemy law say? Is it limited just to blasphemy against Islam or does it cover other religions as well? It would be interesting to see the perpetrators being tried for...

Is Afghanistan really impossible to conquer?

The article itself makes the reason clear. It makes no economic sense to occupy Afghanistan. To occupy Afghanistan vast amounts of resources have to be bought in from outside since you cannot generate the resources from within the country itself.

UP college students booked for 'sedition'; they cheered Pakistan in cricket match

India’s government lies about 2012 military coup fears

I am not sure how successful a military coup will ever be in India. The general population and especially the youth has strong political opinions and wouldn't take kindly to people who take away their democracy. The army would have been thrown out in no time.
