    China knows the DF-21 can be easily countered. Its achilles heel is the large over the horizon radar needed as well as US electronic warfare abilities.

    99% of thier weapons are cold war era with a small number of MIG-29's in the air force. The reason they have not modernized is a combination of sanctions and lack of money. It is very expensive to upgrade and then maintain modern weaponry.

    I recently returned from a trip to Burma, Thailand and China. My favorite was Thailand, I have never met a more hospitable and gracious people. Their infrastructure was also much more built up even in the far north then I expected. I hope the highway gets completed.

    Bridge head for what? Afghanistan is a very poor bridge to the countries you listed, It is to land locked. It's far more in the US interests to have a stable peaceful Afghanistan.
