With the US/EU/Turkish/Gulf backed head choppers on the brink of defeat in Aleppo and Trump elected in the US we should end our "Assad must go" stance.
We want to make money. No shit genius.
I can understand not wanting to get too involved in foreign conflicts. But closing military bases as a cost cutting measure makes no sense if your goal is a large increase in military spending as Trump's is.
500 billion for the military, giant tax cuts, a trillion on infrastructure, a giant wall and health insurance for everyone. Only one of these is financially possible.
If Russia is so eager to invade Poland and the the Baltics, why didn't they do it from 1992-2004? Yes they were weaker then ,but much stronger than their neighbours
Well Hollande certainly won't win. The only other option is Sarkozy, who, along with Obama and Cameron, created the refugee crisis by bombing Libya and could be in jail within a year.
Trump will be more favourably disposed to us than Obama or Hilary. Plus, a Marine Le Pen victory, which can't be discounted now, is going to finish the EU for good.
We're at the front of the queue for the US now, which will strengthen our hand in negotiations.
Also, nobody is now going to discount a victory for Marine Le Pen or Geert Wilders.
Those wondering where Trump might stand on this or that foreign policy issue are missing the point: he isn't really that interested in foreign policy. He'll try to get involved as little as possible.
I would expect Trump to restart sanctions on Iran. But if they restart the nuclear programme I can't see him launching an attack. Bush didn't and he was much more of a hawk.
Things change. Has your country contributed anything of value to the world in science, literature or technology in the last 500 years. I can't think of anything.
