Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

NN, I have yet to see a single incident of women being raped in custody. Not saying its an impossibility but do share links etc. if this is indeed the case. There is a lot of propaganda being wielded on both sides to build a narrative. We should always seek the truth. I am not saying...

Fawad Choudhry Quits PTI ..and Asad Umar Follows !

Listen, it's quite easy and comfortable for you to say all of the above sitting in the relative safety of the west. The ones on the ground in Pakistan do not have this luxury. So spare the members this talk of "backbone", "legs spread" etc. etc. I'd like to see you take a trip to Pakistan...

Family of Ex-COAS Asif Nawaz Janjua is Being Hunted Down in Lahore

They ask questions, in the setting they are allowed. In all of the garrison talks, he is getting a lot of questions with sessions sometimes running into 2+ hours. As far as asking the COAS to resign, what would Asim Munir retort with? He'd ask on what grounds? His whole stance is that the law...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

They cannot afford to keep the demonstrators, and that too this many in jails for long. I think the purpose is to keep the die-hards out while the basic dismantling takes place. Whatever is being done is definitely illegal. Unfortunately in our land, illegal measures are never unprecedented...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

For those who have not read "Pakistan - A Hard Country" by Anatol Lieven, I highly encourage you all to do. In the book he argues that our clan/biradri/tribal systems trumps our nationalism as a nation. Meaning that the lowest common denominator is not the country, rather the giraeen next to...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

Not sure what you mean by above. Usually, when officers, specially at the rank of Lt Gen are superseded and face the potential to have to report to a newly promoted junior officer (by PA number), they opt to retire. They can continue till their superannuation/retirement but the tradition is to...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

I hope they don't ban O/A levels from applying. Not sure if I knew about this. Why? I would think we would want all strata of the society in the national army. Not just the ones from government schools. To your second point, all of the things you mention are capital heavy. Need money which...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

It has been tried in the past and unfortunately has not worked. The decentralization of power away from CoAS to other 4 star regional commands is a more feasible option because it would truly make the CoAS first among "equals" in reality and not the way this phrase is thrown around in the...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

Haider Mehdi's father was my father's CO. An eccentric individual whose stories would make for fun reading. I think the son gets some of the same tendencies from his father (that aside I understand and get the gist HM is getting at, however I don't necessarily agree with everything he says)...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

That is an age old tradition (and a very good one in our military). One time my father was driving his beat up Volkswagen in Karachi, Lt Gen Pervez Musharraf was driving on the same road. Saw my father, pulled his car over and paid his respects for a good 15 mins addressing him with the usual...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

1, 2 and 3 are essentially the American model. It definitely has its pros, albeit the con is that its an expensive proposition for Pakistan, however, in light of consolidation of too much power in the hands of the CoAS, the idea is to make the post of CoAS similar to the CJCSC. How you do that...

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan speaks

Because this is a slog for the long haul so you need to keep on pushing. Nothing is completely done or written in stone yet. Also, as we always say, if you want something really bad, you have to have the patience, the fight, the will to see it through. Our problem is not getting to the state...

Ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan Arrested: News and Discussion

This is no longer politics. This is something entirely different. The funny (actually nothing funny about it at all), interesting, disappointing, unreal thing is that whosoever is orchestrating (PDM/Establishment) this has no idea that these leaders are just a manifestation of public support...

Army Chief Asim Munir, Imran Khan and ISI Chief should meet together with International Players & Guarantees to put an end to the Crisis.

Sitting in the UK, please don't spread rumors when a charge of such sort is massive. If god forbid a girl/girls was/were raped, there must have been a medico-legal report filed. It is not the offending party that would document it, rather the victim's side. I have been on PTI's Twitter handle...

Gen Asim showed Imran proof of his wife's corruption in 2019: Shehbaz

Ok so the precedence of including ISI/MI was already set and unfortunately it has continued to this day. This in essence is the answer to the gent who was raising issues with why ISI is involved in such backdoor things.

:-) Fiji is a predominantly Christian country. Muslims make up only 7% of the population.

Gen Asim showed Imran proof of his wife's corruption in 2019: Shehbaz

I am not saying that PTI initiated the case. Only pointing out that in order to prosecute the cases being managed by NAB, the then SC and PTI government enlisted the support of FIA/ISI (and MI as you stated) to get evidence via the JIT. So the practice was continued in PTI's tenure. That...

Gen Asim showed Imran proof of his wife's corruption in 2019: Shehbaz

By the then PTI government. IK is on the record saying that ISI was involved to help get evidence of financial corruption so the cases could be prosecuted. That is when he mentioned that Bajwa et-al were going slow on the cases etc. MI was not involved. It was FIA/ISI to assist NAB.
