Chinese visitors to US may be included in social media checks
(China Daily) 15:38, February 18, 2017

The Trump administration is proposing to include Chinese holders of long-term US business and visitor visas traveling to the US to disclose what social media platforms they use, according to the website Politico.

A traveler would be asked online to identify the platforms. Answering the question would be "optional," US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a notice set for publication on Feb 21 in the Federal Register. Those who don't want to answer will have their travel requests processed "without a negative interpretation or inference," the notice said.

The initial iteration of the program to collect social media handles asked travelers about profiles on sites like Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. However, residents of China tend to use other social media platforms.

A CBP spokeswoman had no immediate comment on whether Chinese social media platforms would be included, Politico said.

The move to cover Chinese visitors in the social-media-focused screening comes as Trump administration officials review steps to vet foreigners seeking to enter the US, including asking for social media passwords, Politico said.

It said that the Obama administration used a similar, voluntary, social-media screening effort late last year for travelers eligible to enter the US through the Visa Waiver Program, which includes many European countries and other highly-developed nations.

LOL!! I have a better idea. We just simply ban access to all Chinese social media sites in the US.

As a responsible taxpayer, you are obliged to write to the US government and demand such action be taken first thing Monday.

North Africa welcome you :) ( btw no visas required)

It seems I can't enter the United States because I speak ill of the American government.:D:lol:
No need to visit Chinatown in ghetto Philadelphia . Toronto suburb is mainly Chinese with modern Chinese plaza on virtually every major intersection

If you plan to visit America, there are certain cities to avoid. Some cities are run down such as Detroit, part of it is like a "ghost city" with wanton destruction. Parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties in Florida are run down due to poverty and not safe. To get a feel of the various cities, see this link

Thirty years ago, US was a great country but the banking cabal elites has been leeching the country dry. I feel sorry for my American friends as US wasn't like this 30 years ago. However, most (non-urban) parts of the mid-west and north-west are still okay to visit.

Instead of visiting US, how about visiting Australia. Australia is a great place to visit. We are "near" to China. We have nice seafood, fresh air, good environment. We also have kangaroos and koalas. Moreover, you don't have to declare your preferred social media platforms.

Land of the free wants to curb peoples' freedom of speech.

Looks like their Chinese speaking staffs will be in shortage.

The less preference of the US already shows in the growing number of returning compatriots to Mainland and Taiwan.

As for travel destinations, indeed, near and better managed countries including Australia are much better.

Then my Weixin, Line, and Weibo are all safe (NSA does not discriminate, as German companies and politicos found out).
