US Minot Air Force Base test-launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with test re-entry vehicles.

A team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen from the 91st Missile Wing at US Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, launched the missile on Feb. 8 at 11:39 p.m. Pacific Standard Time from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, US Air Force announced Thursday.

The ICBM's reentry vehicles, which contained telemetry packages used for operational testing, travelled approximately 4,200 miles to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Test launches verify the accuracy and reliability of the ICBM weapon system, providing valuable data to ensure a continued safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent.

Minot AFB is one of three missile bases with crew members standing alert 24 hours a day, year-round, overseeing the nation’s ICBM alert forces.

“This Task Force worked flawlessly alongside the absolute professionals from the 576 FLTS to make this mission a success,” Maj. Neil Copenhaver, GT221 Task Force commander, said.

The ICBM community, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and U.S. Strategic Command uses data collected from test launches for continuing force development evaluation.

The ICBM test launch program demonstrates the operational capability of the Minuteman III and ensures the US’ ability to maintain a nuclear deterrent as a key element of US national security and the security of US allies and partners.

Everyone testing their MIRV. but the shupa Pawa cancelled it K4 test? Haven't heard anything since they they announced the testing date end of last month.

Testing like that would simply bring unwanted attention to missile programs in the sub continent. Let K4 get tested after things cool down :)

Is it? You don't go about announcing the test in advance of a particular missile, issuing NOTAM, and then end up rather embarrassingly going all hush about it. There are three possibilities:

1. Test did happen but was a failure
2. Testing something which is non MIRV won't make sense when major powers are flexing muscle in that particular technology.
3. Another test using pontoon would be another embarrassment.

My opinion. It's both 2 and 3.

I agree but there is also a
point 4: There was an issue that was detected early and test aborted to fix the issue.
point 5: Why destabilize the environment with tests which look more like escalations.

India is the one of the only two countries that make a huge deal about testing missiles days or even weeks before testing. It's for bragging/chest thumping purposes. When India had to cancel, its quit embarrassing. As nothing is more humiliating than a failed brag.

As for the other country that brags about missile tests. That would be North Korea. So Indian attitude about nuclear missile is no different than N Korea.

For point 5, India didn't consider nuclearization of Indian ocean an escalation when it embarked upon testing these missiles which were meant to be fired submerged, don't think regional destabilization is the reason.

Isnt this the same USA who asks Pakistan to cut down missile program while India next doors is actively building missiles?
While they themselves are so scared to Kim Jong tung's Fire crackers which cant even reach USA that they had to Re-start missile testing.
What hypocrites.

how come? haven't they signed CTBT?

I watched Minutemen on Disney channel and it was an okay film.

As for the other country that brags about missile tests. That would be North Korea. So Indian attitude about nuclear missile is no different than N Korea.

Even their brag is pathetic, China test fire 100 or so ballstic missiles every year since 2005, usually they dont even mentions these tests, only their enemy, the US, mentioned about that during their reports on China military power.

And I still recall during some China-Russia military drill, one russian official told the media that China test fire more real missiles in the drill than the Russian army for the entire years (military drills I assume).

So it is really pathetic to brag about their stone-age missile's failed tests.

So the US can test ICBMs but we cant. Thats rich.

For a super power thay can't go by Manuel's written in other languages and we don't get any boxed item.
We need to test every parameters . May be need to postponed or they can fail. These are all a part of invention and testing.

The main reason DRDO say for the postponed is the concern from Pakistan .
Pakistan says India's K-4 undersea missile tests would disturb strategic balance in South Asia
Just kidding....:-):-)
