ISLAMABAD: The world’s most expensive metal molybdenum has been recently discovered in Balochistan which has 0.1 million dollars per ton cost and it is used for making the aircraft, said Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) Director General (DG) Dr Imran.

He was briefing the sub-committee of the standing committee on petroleum on Thursday. The body met under Senator Fateh Muhammad Hassani.

Imran said molybdenum could be found in the Tethyan Metallogenic Belt which passes through Bulgaria, Greece, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

GSP has discovered 36 precious minerals in Balochistan which include antimony, aragonite/marble, copper, dolomite, gold, fluorite, gypsum and magnetite.

He said further the cost of these hidden resources is around $50 trillion and Reko Diq has a $1 trillion worth.

Hassani said this metal could be found in Kuh-e-Taftan which was given to Iran by the government in 1960.

Imran said that Sandvik Metal Limited is exploring minerals in this area but GSP discoveries could not be highlighted due to the strict rules.

He added that the GSP has completed 132 projects in the last five years. The institute had spent Rs 298 million development budget in the last fiscal year.

Senator Nisar Muhammad said the government has funded 16 projects in the last five year through PSDP. The country has unlimited resources but the Planning Ministry is not allocating money to discover them, he lamented.

Hassani said the committee would direct the government to increase the budget of GSP, adding that it should work along with Pakistani companies to discover the hidden resources.

The GSP works under the Petroleum Ministry. The organisation is responsible to discover resources through geological, geographical and geochemical research.

Senator Azam Khan Mandokhel said smuggled Iranian petrol and diesel were available across Pakistan. He added 390 filling stations were illegally providing petrol in the country.

Hassani said PSO officials are involved in the admixture of petrol. The committee members showed their annoyance over the PSO MD for not attending the meeting.

@DESERT FIGHTER Uranium as well, right?

No idea about uranium but Balochistan is rich in coal, gold and semi precious stones.

The few mines tapped have been closed .. Due to a mixture of corruption, illegal tenders favouring Foriegn companies and mismanagement....

Others are victim of illegal mining...

Apart from the centuries old technique of using TNT which as you know .. while the world has moved on towards more effective methods..

In swat there is a wealth of semi precious stones... The mines are tapped illegally and the stones cut and sold to India through Dubai .. Who polish em and sell them as Indian gems... Causing Pak financial losses in hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars...

I'd also take trillions of dollars nonsense with a pinch of salt... And even if there are such large reserves they are useless for Balochistan or even the country...

What good are they buried ?

Riqo deq.. I have visited those mines ... Actually brought back a few stones where you can see the good particles .... Again a disaster ... Thanks to the Canadian Israeli owned company and politics...

Uranium is very scarce in Pakistan.

Yeah otherwise Zia would have dug up Balochistan rather than buying uranium from Niger( French exploiting the poor people) through gaddafi..:)

He said further the cost of these hidden resources is around $50 trillion and Reko Diq has a $1 trillion worth.

MashaAllah!

BTW, just how did he come up with these numbers?

Need to tell that all to Hamid Mir & others, I am sure due to obsession, they will at-least share further truth or would cry sky high so the matter will catch an eye and then we will be getting another side of the story. However, the usual suspicion into everything is the must for many of them for the living otherwise, would die if a day passes without such complains.

No doubt Baluchistan is rich with natural resources though numbers could be exaggerated but we are also facing the giant of corruption in face of so-called leaders and their tactics to earn money by awarding the contracts to the companies that actually paid for their election campaigns. It is impossible for the incompetent and corrupt leadership to betray the masters and sponsors that have been spending for the day.... The corporate mafia and their agents.

I have never heard that Pakistan ceded a part of Balochistan to Iran .. I am surprised to hear that

@Doordie @Valar Dohaeris @DESERT FIGHTER I read a report some years back about substantial reserves of Uranium, therefore troubled you guys.

As to molybdenum - this is used in high end car engines (infiniti) to coat the piston, for smother running and decreases the wear and tear. One use I know of.

I did abit of research and i found out the below. Molybdenum can withstand extreme temperatures without significantly expanding or softening, making it useful in environments of intense heat, including military armor, aircraft parts, electrical contacts, industrial motors, and filaments

With a broken central state government,Highly corrupt mafia
Let 10 trillion ,If you gave them a planet of Molybdenum the size of mars,They would eat it with corruption ..
On a lighter side,Can our air-force start using it on our JF-17 or ship it to the Turks for their TFX..
In Pakistan i know 100% ,all of these minerals are useless and even 1 % corruption is bad enough to give them away.

On personal account, I dont think Uranium is so much necessary for Pakistan at current stage. As all of our power reactors are imported, so fuel is also covered by vendors under agreements. And neither we are a member of NSG so that we would have been able to export excessive metal nor our weapon systems is now dependent on Uranium excursively. @Khafee

Rather I wish the minister might have been true for his assessment of the values of the reserves of Moly, cause even 1 trillion can send us to the levels which no one can imagine. :cheesy:
Well a little bit of uranium to the politicians would solve a lot of problems.
