UN envoy warns: Yemen is being pushed 'to the edge of civil war'
The Yemeni foreign minister is asking several Gulf Arab neighbors for military intervention to stop territorial advances by Houthi fighters in his embattled country, after the U.N. special envoy for Yemen warned the U.N. Security Council that events appear to be leading the country "to the edge of civil war."
The Houthi rebels opposed to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi are threatening the country’s security, Yemeni foreign minister Riyadh Yaseen suggested
"They're expanding in territory, occupying airports and cities, attacking Aden with planes, detaining whom they please, threatening and gathering their forces," Yaseen told Al Jazeera TV.
"We have expressed to the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Nations as well as the international community that there should be a no-fly zone, and the use of military aircraft should be prevented at the airports controlled by the Houthis," Yaseen told the al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper, Reuters reported.
Gulf Cooperation Council members include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.
Saudi Arabia: Arabs will take action over Yemen if peace efforts fail
(Reuters) - Arab countries will take necessary measures to protect the region against "aggression" by Yemen's Iranian-allied Houthi group if a peaceful solution cannot be found to that country's turmoil, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said on Monday.
The Houthis and Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi have established rival power centers in Sanaa and Aden and denied each other's legitimacy, and appear to be moving towards open conflict.
Asked if Riyadh might offer military aid to Hadi, whom it recognizes as Yemen's legitimate ruler, Prince Saud said: "Certainly, countries in the region and the Arab world will take the necessary measures to protect the region from aggression."
Speaking at a joint news conference with British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Prince Saud repeated an invitation to all Yemen's rival factions, including the Houthis, to attend peace talks in the kingdom.
Hammond said Britain and its allies were discussing their response.
"The international community will not stand by while Houthi forces and other actors continue to undermine stability in Yemen and seek to fragment that country and undermine its legitimate president," he said, adding: "None of us wants to see military action."
Asked about Tehran's role in supporting the Houthis in Yemen, Prince Saud said he was "against Iran's interference" and also attacked what he described as Iran's efforts to "stir up sectarian conflict" in Arab states.
Earlier, in Cairo, Riyadh Yaseen, named by Hadi as his interim foreign minister, called for Gulf Arab military intervention in Yemen, and notably the imposition of a no-fly zone, to stop territorial advances by Houthi fighters.

what a big mouth. Saudi does not represent all Arabs.
Many countries do not support them like Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Oman and this list will continue to grow now.
Saudi went to war against Arab Saddam, then Arab Syria and now trying against Arab Yemen.
doubtful if saudi will interfere directly in yemen as there are bigger risks than Iraq and Syria.
Hadi begging saudi for direct intervention and bomb his own country.
Do the Houthis have much support among Yemen's population?
Yes same like ISIS.......
Yes, they have support of majority of army and many Yemenis, especially in middle and northern areas of Yemen. The fact that they entered many areas without shooting one single bullet proves that they do have support of a lot of Yemenis (including many Sunnis).
Zaidis have ruled Yemen for nearly 1000 years until middle of 20th century, they are not any new guests in Yemen.
In southern areas of Yemen, there are various Sunni tribes who either side with president or with AlQaeda.
That's simply rubbish and comes out of a sectarian mindset. ISIS and AQ and those tribes who actually support them. If they were anything even close to ISIS, the puppet president would have been beheaded publicly in Aden by now and thousands of people already killed.
Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they are not a legitimate force in Yemen.
1st stop talking like a parrot and get your facts right.
2nd houthis are no longer yazidis! badr aldeen alhouthi when he ran away to iran he became a shia like you.
3rd another evidence that you are a parrot and you are marketing your own government thugs, if you watched the houthies fight during the last 6 or 7 years and how they could not even inter a small town in yemen, you will have some understanding of whats happening in yemen. and how weak the houthies were. but you are iranian so its non of your business.
4th the reason the houthi gained ground in yemen is aly abdullah saleh.
5th yemen has more weapons than any other arab country. every baby walk with a gun. so they are being wise and trying to avoid a war like in syria and iraq. they know it cuz they tried it before.
6. please change the pic of the women in your avatar.
not at all.. the old president aly abdullah saleh and iran are backing them up for different reasons. but its a matter of time before they vanish. the thing is yemenies are trying to avoid a war.
haha... when saudi talk you stay quiet and listen carefully.
and just to correct your dumb mistake iran and US started a war against iraq. not saudi. we called it an invasion from day 1. listen hate saudi all you want. no one cares! actually it makes me happy cuz i know it biols your head. but please have some self respect and dont lie like this guy @Serpentine
There is now an awakening in Yemen.
The Houthis are back baby!
Saudi Does Not represent All Arabs.
It is universal truth that saudi invited usa to fight against Iraq and remove saddam.
Iran does not pay for wars to usa. it is saudi.
If saudi stop war mongering. no one will hate them
How come it threatens to invade another ARAB Country Yemen.
People will hate saudi more.
Question= what will Arabs do in Yemen
Answer= Arabs will take action over Yemen if peace efforts fail
Question=How Can you explain
Answer= Hammond said Britain and her western allies were discussing their response
I think there is no sectarian mindset in it,they are doing same what ISIS did, beheading game came after they took control not the first day, what is different between two both have destabilized countries calling foreign forces to intervene.Iran is desperately trying like SA to show that she is a regional power but end is same, poor Muslims either shia or sunni die and they think they have done great job by projecting there power on sectarian basic.......
Are Houthis 'Peaceful' ?
I will only take Arhab district of Sana'a Governorate, as an example :
1. Houthis detonated sheikh Arraf Al-Ubaidi's house, when he declared that his tribe (Al-Ubaid) doesn't support them :
2. Houthis also detonated shekh Muhammad Al-Makroub's house, for the same reason :
3. Houthis have no respect for mosques, they often steal and vandalize them or even get inside with their boots on :
4. Houthis kidnap anti-Houthi activists, and their families aren't allowed to know about their fate, for example :
After all, can anyone tell me if Houthis are 'angels', why did they shutdown all satellite channels they control ?, are they afraid of something ?
Who takes time to create delusions of Syria and its people, will definitely create another virtual world of delusions when it comes to Yemen .
Visit Syrian Civil War thread, and check out how many Iranian mercenaries are being killed everyday, if Khamenei and his supporters claim that most of us support Bashar, why would he need to keep sending his foreign thugs from Iran, Afghanistan, Southern Lebanon, Southern Iraq, etc ?
Regimes do NOT matter, what matter is us, people. I am pretty sure that Saudi Arabia understands us very much than Iran .
At least Saudi Arabia mainly concentrates on humanitarian support, while Iran keeps arming foreign mercenaries and sends them to Syria and other Arab states .
HAHA the houthies are dead baby... they just dont know it yet.
they are being used by ali abdullah saleh and iran. so logically they wont last long for too many logical reasons to list.
and thats how stupidity kills you.
universal truth ? LOL
let me remind you maybe you were still a baby back then.
please watch and feel dumb. lol
I will recommend House of Saud for noble peace prize
