CHATTOGRAM, June 07: The Western Marine Shipyard (WMS) Limited of Bangladesh and the Shalimar Works Limited of Kolkata have teamed up to build 60 inland ships.

The ships will be built as part of a major programme undertaken by the government of India's Pashchimbanga (West Bengal) state to restore and activate National Waterways-01 of India.

The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this end at Rajya Paribahan Club in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, on Wednesday.

Managing Director of Western Marine Sakhawat Hossain and Managing Director of Shalimar Works Shomdeb Chottopadhay signed the MoU.

Transport Minister of West Bengal Shubhendru Odhikari, Transport Secretary Alapon Bondhopaddhay and Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata Toufik Hasan were present at the signing ceremony.

Established in 1885, Shalimar Works Limited is one of the oldest shipyards in the private sector in India.

It was later taken over by the Government of West Bengal in 1980. Since then, the shipyard has been building ships for the Indian Navy.

Recently, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) awarded tender to Shalimar Works for building 60 ships.

To achieve this, Shalimar Works will be working jointly with Western Marine Shipyard on a 26/74 per cent partnership.

Western Marine will provide technical expertise and know-how to Shalimar Works while Shalimar will provide infrastructure support.

Each ship will be 600 DWT (Deadweight Tonnage) to 2500 DWT capacity vessels and will cost Tk 50 million to 200 million.

The Indian government is also working to restore four other major national waterways of India. Eventually, 600 ships will be required to operate in these routes to carry goods domestically.

The governments of both the countries are hopeful that this venture will help increase bilateral trade.

@TopCat
Bhaijan, is it necessary to tag some pshyco troll ?
Now this will be battle ground.

Regards.

Exactly my thought. @TopCat never feed the troll. I will send message to mods tomorrow to take action against this troll. Spamming all the forum with same thing again and again with tagging some other trolls to derail thread needs to be stopped.

@bluesky no one said Bangladesh is perfect or doing 100% great. But a lots of development has happened in last 1 and half decades and result is apparent. No need to expect Bangladesh will perform like G7 economies but please refrain from feeding that particular troll. If possible ignore him. We all of us are busy except that troll, so we should not waste our time and energy just by fighting with each other and replying to the moron.

My thoughts exactly. This Indian flagger troll has one (and only one) thing on his vengeful vendetta, and that is to derail any and all Bangladeshi threads and discussions. It has become impossible to discuss productively with this troll being able to derail any thread here in this manner. Our goal is only to discuss recent news and events in Bangladesh. If we cannot do this then the point of coming here to the forum is moot.

I have already demonstrated that many of the people (accounts) who are supporting this Indian flagger troll (mostly fake false flagger accounts spawned by interested parties) are not even Bangladeshi flaggers. If you tag this troll or show any support for him, then obviously your interests run counter against the Bangladesh section. You will be henceforth marked.

Whomever (with whatever flag) tries to derail a thread in this section of the forum, is in violation of forum rules and is definitely not a genuine Bangladeshi poster in my opinion. The mod bhais will hopefully take some action against these people.

@waz bhai, @Homo Sapiens bhai, @Centaur bhai, @fallstuff bhai, @sbmc27 bhai and all other genuine Bangladeshi PDF'ers let's discuss this together please.

On a more relevant note, seems like Shalimar is basically taking tech transfer from Western Marine. Curiously - the Western Marine guy from Bangladesh is the only person smiling in the publicity photo above....

Western Marine already built two of these 8000 DWT ships for JSW Jaigarh Ports Ltd. India under Indian Register of Shipping standards (further four will be built). They specialize in these mini bulkers.

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/western-marine-builds-two-ships-for-indian-firm.525020/

Facts:
  • Length OA: 122.25 m Length BP: 117.10 m Breadth MLD: 20.00 m Depth MLD: 07.20m
  • Deadweight: 8,000 DWT
  • Gross Tonnage: 6000 T
  • Trial speed (loaded): 10 knots
  • Fuel consumption: approx.196 gm/kwhr
  • Engine Power:1330 kW @ 900 RPM, Yanmar, Japan
  • Class: Indian Register of Shipping (IRS)
  • Registration/Flag: India
  • Route: Sea Going

Here are the Indian National Waterways in question, for making things clearer. Seems like Allahabad to Haldia is the intended route. I am not aware of the draft and navigability of the route and what size vessel will be required (600 DWT to 2500 DWT is a pretty large range, probably smaller than 1500 DWT for inland riverine transport and the larger ones are the coastal mini bulkers carrying items to Bangladesh.

Indians should get busy. Heck of a lot of dredging to do.

Guys, this goes to show how advanced BD is at building these kinds of ships.
It seems that the Indians have had to admit that BD ship technology at this class size is superior than what can be found in India.

What BD government needs to do is to provide financial incentives to the shipbuilding industry, in order for them to start building much larger ships as that is where big profits are.

Bangladesh added the riverine Intermodal Container Terminal at Dhaka (Pangaon ICT) some five years ago. Indian ICD's are planned upstream near Allahabad as well.

Pangaon shipping terminal has a 180-metre-long jetty with 55,000- square-metre backup facility to handle export-import cargo containers.

  • According to the revised tariffs, the crane charges applied for quay-gantry crane for a 20-foot container have been knocked down 70 per cent to Tk 300.
  • The harbour crane charge for each move now will be halved to Tk 240 from Tk 480.
  • Charge for empty container handling with cranes will come to Tk 180 against Tk 240.
  • The loading of FCL (Full Container Load) will now cost only Tk 450 at the terminal. The amount was Tk 1,500 before.
  • The same services for the LCL container (Less than Container Load) will stand at Tk 1,335, following a 70 per cent cut.
  • Charge for the loading and discharging of empty containers at the Pangaon terminal will now stand at Tk 225 against Tk 750.
  • The charge for stuffing and un-stuffing of cargos from the containers has been cut by 50 per cent to Tk 150.
  • Charge for lift-on and lift-off containers, however, will remain unchanged at Tk 600.
  • The authorities have revised storage charges also. The storage charges for loaded containers up to seventh days now will stand at Tk 500.
  • From the eighth day to 20th day, the charges will be Tk 1,000. And for each subsequent day it is Tk 2,000.
Authorities at the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal say that these cuts will help accelerate the activities at the terminal which is competing with Rail ICD and trucking container service.

Here are some shots and info from Pangaon,

Typical locally built container carrier serving Pangaon ICT - about 180 TEU or about 2000 tonnes displacement

Its called throwing a small optical bone to get much larger sustained continuation of the trade deficit.

It is hillarious the level of paranoia shown in this thread hahaha, simply for topcat tagging me and bluesky?

I guess I live rent free in BD loser (groupthink swamper) psyche haha...like a friggin deity of destruction....so much that they sewer their own threads with the quivering butthurt... just look at first few posts haha. YOU lot are the ones giving me all this easy opportunity at no expense to show BD underlying nature.

This is me taking on the cheap BD "3-milllion'er" noobs....one manages to get away in the end here too (equivalent of running waaah waaah to the mods with the "wah-proof" on the disk):

Except in your case there is no hope for you lot in the end hahaha.

So much so they have learned to fear me permanently, without me even showing up.

@django @Desert Fox @SOUTHie @Hell hound @Zibago :lol:

Removed the tag from OP posting... Now lets discuss the topics in hand.
You should harness your inner genghis khan heritage and not submit to these groupthink twerps so easily :P

Please be more alpha like this instead:

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/bang...explore-distant-planets.562972/#post-10554963

If you do, they will eventually say you are a false flagger/hacked account blah blah... too like bluesky.

BTW I got the tag anyway even though you deleted it.... it may be more useful to delete the 3 million'er complex like that instead.

I have already demonstrated that many of the people (accounts) who are supporting this Indian flagger troll (mostly fake false flagger accounts spawned by interested parties) are not even Bangladeshi flaggers.
:lol::lol: whatever you say mr. paranoid....*pat* *pat*. In other news the LA mental ward has upgraded its general notice on a crazy (earlier strait jacket incarcerated) Bangla illegal to an APB. Hope ICE doesn't find you first. :enjoy:

If you tag this troll or show any support for him, then obviously your interests run counter against the Bangladesh section. You will be henceforth marked.
You made this thread multiple times already, yet you don't follow through on it. Crazy BD groupthinkers have no guts to follow though on this stuff it looks like.

I will send message to mods tomorrow to take action against this troll.
You said this before too 2 -3 times....why do you keep missing the waaaah-express?...or do they boot you out each time like the swamp beggar you are for ticketless travel?

:pakistan: mods + BD sheeple attempted cooperation....it worked out so well the last time :cray:

@Gibbs @Khan_21 @Kami leone @Aung Zaya @Game.Invade :D have a read

Not really. This small purchases cannot hide the large trade deficit and make it ok.

Simply, BD technology at this class of ships is superior to India. This is not really a surprise as BD has had some of the most advanced shipbuilding for centuries before the UK colonised the sub-continent. The Royal navy's most advanced warships during Waterloo were built in Chittagong.

You are free to do the worth (of this)/trade deficit % calc yourself :D ...heck just compare to your bajaj motorcycles yearly import. Friggin pathetic....but its what a 220 kg oil equiv. (total energy) per capita consumption country is in the end simply.

That is off-topic.

This is good for BD as it means that BD ship technology just gets consolidated in this area as you learn a lot from teaching others.

Like I say BD government needs to give massive tax breaks and also allow cheap credit to the shipbuilding industry to allow it to grow.
