There is 90% chance of India picking F16. India US is moving on defense collaboration. India is not in hurry to sign the deal without getting the terms agreeable to them. Granted Pakistan will have initial advantage of F16 experience but over a period of time gap will reduce. Till that time India has other planes to deal with 18 odd F16.

India will buy it. Trump does not know what he is talking.

This is an speculative write up and coming off of twitter....not much credibility behind it.

But just thinking hypothetically, India would never buy F-16 even if it is Super Viper, it only looks good at the face value.
Rumors were going from a long time, look at this article published in 2005.
    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...usive-F-16s-to-India/articleshow/1063113.cms?
So India would have moved in the last 11 or so years!!!

What India will gain from an F-16 production line?

Fighter aircraft manufacturing know how? At the apprx. cost of $8 billion, first buy 100 planes?
Then India will have to induct ~ 200 more planes to complete MMRCA inventory requirements.

In parallel or after meeting those requirements India then will have to search for a market for these planes.
Which countries will but these planes?
Not any European country, they will go for 5th Gen F-35 option.
So India's potential market will be with the developing countries in SA, Asia and Africa. But for that, an F-16C/D Block 52 at Appx. $80 millions a pop has to compete against much economical options like JF-17 and MiG 29. Their requirements will be JF-17 or like in the $25 to $30 million price range and performance.

Most importantly, PAF knows in and out of F-16, so India buying similar plane and/or assembly line is highly unlikely.

Selling the whole unit will be economic burden for India. Because they have to sell the product to keep the factory running. Even they sell the factory , it will take ages to trained Indian to run the factory.

The basic F-16 design build and production was approved in 1976. U.S. Air Force no longer being purchasing any more only improved versions are still being built for export customers. Original developer General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business in 1993 to the Lockheed Corporation. Around 25 nations are using it still today. Pakistan start using F-16 since 1983.

Yes no other foreign aircraft F-104, F-86, F-6, Mirage 3,5 were unable to inspire the decision makers in PAF to be loved then F-16 so we done what Israel had done with the Mirage 5 idea "make its own KAFIR aircraft, which is still in use". So our F-16 derivative is JF-17 though it is quite young but rapidly evolving.

If India Leaving INDIGENOUS TAJES platform like that, means India is not so confident on its own INDIGENOUS design as advocated, 2nd e.g recent purchase of French RAFALE platform. Even if India manufacture F-16 at home it will just to fulfill the number of squadron they need. After so much investment in SU-30MKI, TAJES, RAFALE and then F-16.

Yes agreed Pakistan is using F-16 for 30+ years. We had enough
