Why is India excluded from OIC?

Observer status for India is long overdue. I’m sure it’s on its way.

Why should India be included in the first place? Why would India even have an interest in joining an organization for Muslims? Some weird fetish you guys have!

India represents a significant portion of global muslim population.

I am not a big fan of religious based organization like OIC because they come with their short commings by not allowing other opposing thoughts.

AFAIK, this push is due to request from Indian Muslims themselves. Although Muslims are minority in India, OIC should make an exception. 190-200 million is a huge number.

I’m sure we will be observer members in due course of time. As for benefits, there are plenty and OIC is also an economic organisation. It’s just that they aren’t very good at it. India coming in could be very attractive for member states (barring pakistan) — from boosting investment and giving them some political relevance to counter terrorism support and cultural exchange.

We are pretty good at all those things today.

On what basis Pakistan was included? Just 5% go to masjid on regular basis. It does not follow any of the islamic tenants.
