We have other priorities then winning few medal in Olympic or any big tournament. What the benefit it would bring to common Bangladeshis if we will few gold 🏅 except some pride. Actually same goes for India Pakistan too, better concentrating on human development improving their life standards. For very rich countries whose population are living much better then people of subcontinent can spare their time and resources for many tournament to achieve national pride .
All around development of a society is not sequential. It can run parallel on many fronts.
Promoting sports and games as a way of life has many benefits and can aid towards a healthier nation that has many benefits.
Belief that sports is a diversion from quest for basics of life is a notion that needs to go away. Look at many African nations and nations from other parts that are not well off but have good tally of medals.
Cost benefit analysis of medals at such events may not be the right method to calculate pride. The swell of nationalism that a medal or an international win can bring is priceless and create unparalleled feeling of happiness and joy. Remember when BD cricket team defeated Indian Team? The reaction in BD public couldn’t have been bought off the shelf or created by any other means.

This whole affair needs a change of thought process in the society that views sports as a waste of time.

Or maybe Bangladesh needed to focus on population control, feeding its people, and dealing with the occasional natural disaster.

Funds are limited.

Yes these are the challenges that can be faced by any developing nation.

But my belief is not limited to government support only.
Sport culture once percolated in a society can produce sportsmen in fields that don’t need too much of equipment and money. Running events, football, volleyball etc are just few examples.

Sadly sports are considered a vice in these parts. Kids are told to focus only on studies.
This needs to change.

Yes you are correct.

There are many reasons of course.

Another one is the South Asian diet i.e. nutrition.

Anecdotally, a lot of the kids of South Asian origin who grow up in the West are markedly more muscular, taller and more athletic than their cousins from the homeland.

It's nutrition as well.

Pakistan has at least one medal 29 years back...Bangladesh has won no medals for 50 years..Bangladesh holds the world record for being the most populous country without an Olympic medal..Pakistan is far ahead
not one but Pakistan had won 10 Olympic medals in total.

Olympic games are the monopoly of few countries and they only include those games in which they are good. just imagine how much medals Pakistan would have had SQUASH is included in olympics,

BTW the whole South asia including india considering our population is pathetic in Olympics and i every field there is nothing to celebrate.

its like celebrating few dollars more in per capita due to dollar fluctuations.
