i think people are only just waking up. did you see today's cnn news?
what was the news?
Court martial them for putting American and personal interests before Pakistan's interest
Based on what? No law was violated.
In any case, lets wait and see:
1. Whether this news is true
2. What amount of Pakistani taxpayer funds has Pakistan given to the US for this contract.
Based on definitions of treason
You cannot court marshal a civilian. Ahsan Iqbal was the initiator of deal. after CH Nisar returned the Huey II Ahsan Iqbal intiated the deal.
Pakistan renewed its interest in acquiring the choppers after the recent change of leadership in the Interior Ministry. The decision to return the helicopters was taken by former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while new minister Ahsan Iqbal concluded that the ministry needs them to monitor the drug route, which is also used by the militants.
This is the whole deal.
The contract covers the manufacture and delivery of 15 Lot 12 UH-1Y Venom utility helicopters, 19 Lot 12 AH-1Zs, one Lot 13 UH-1Y, and 21 auxiliary fuel kits for the government of Pakistan. According to the DoD, these initial helicopters will be delivered by the end of August 2018.
The helicopter are to be delivered in August 2018.
But in my assessment Pakistan is not going ahead with the deal.
The source less tweet is from ARY news host who PTI lover and Ahsan Iqbal is the deal broker the birds are most probably from collation support fund and are meant for interior ministry. The first delivery date is August 2018 this is June now.
57.9 million was the payment that has been made not sure it was made by Pakistan or from collation support fund.
you can all very well asses what is going on.
You would have to establish beyond reasonable doubt that the individuals involved in giving the contract to the US knew that the US would cancel the contract in the future. That's going to be almost impossible to prove.
The way forward, if you and others no longer want Pakistan to give military contracts to the US, is to get the elected government to pass laws prohibiting the same.
Please read it is a Govt of Pakistan deal not an army or air force deal.
Read the definition of negligence and criminal negligence...
For me this falls into criminal negligence as people involved in deal failed to take risks into account given the previous bright history of defense deals with USA
It's a utility helicopter not substitute to attack helicopter.
If the deal is really cancel then Pakistan have no better choice then go for Z-10 attack helicopter to supplement T-129 .
Yes it is a multipurpose helicopter but if Kazan Helicopter have started their trails in Pakistan the attack version will also be tested. There is no confirmation but Russian helicopter tests are never disclosed in the past as well. This news is from last winter attack helicopters are tested in summers.
T-129 is not going to be canceled. There is no reason for it.
Like I predicted all along.
We will still wait for an official confirmation, but things look bleak.
And who says Viper are not coming there is no official word on it. There is no contract for placing them in storage by US department of defence. Visit the site of DOD USA and show me any new storage contract.
Here the delivery is in August 2018.
Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, is being awarded a $581,113,421 modification to definitize a previously awarded advance acquisition contract (N00019-13-C-0023) for the manufacture and delivery of 15 Lot 12 UH-1Y, 19 Lot 12 AH-1Z, one Lot 13 UH-1Y and 21 auxiliary fuel kits for the Marine Corps and government of Pakistan. The aircraft contract line items on this modification are fixed-price-incentive and the auxiliary fuel kit contract line items are firm-fixed-price. Work will be performed in Fort Worth, Texas (60 percent); and Amarillo, Texas (40 percent), and is expected to be completed in August 2018. Fiscal 2014 and 2015 aircraft procurement (Navy) and foreign military sales funds in the amount of $581,113,421 will be obligated at time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract combines purchases for the Navy ($523,193,712; 90 percent) and the government of Pakistan ($57,919,709; 10 percent) under the Foreign Military Sales program. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
Can anyone confirm if the source is credible?
This requires 3 prong response
1 clarify diplomatically that there will be consequences... look closely at coop with USA 8n afganistan and stop what you can easily ... I would not stop supply but u can tax it and stop intelligence sharing all other coop immediately
2 replacement preferably Chinese as it will hurt usa feelings most... preferably as part of deal to get j 31 as well
3 under take internal audit... scrutinise assets of all involved in deal....
See if signs were missed planning wss poor negligence or kickbacks are involved and deal with them accordingly
This is an insult for whole nation and need to be dealt as such
