Umar Akmal in trouble over wedding party

LAHORE: Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal could be in fresh trouble with the law after a party for his wedding breached local rules restricting marriage celebrations, police said Wednesday. Officers in the eastern city of Lahore said the 23-year-old international held a function on Tuesday that violated bylaws which say only one food dish can be served at wedding parties, which must end at 10:00 pm.

Umar, who was to wed former Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir's daughter Noor Amna on Wednesday, left the venue before the police raid. "There were violations of marriage act and a case has been registered and four people were arrested," police official Rana Imtiaz told reporters.

The law was brought in to try to curb excessive wedding celebrations and has proved unpopular in Lahore, traditionally known for lavish marriages.

Imtiaz said Akmal was not named in the police report, but action could still be taken against the cricketer, as it was his function. It comes a month after Akmal was cleared of violating traffic rules and scuffling with a policeman. The officer in question forgave Akmal, saying he was a 'national hero', following a match-saving century against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup.

Akmal's wedding has attracted big headlines in Pakistan media over his hairstyle and expensive sherwani - the groom's traditional long coat. Umar has so far played 16 Tests, 94 one-day and 56 Twenty20 internationals for Pakistan.

Preventing the rich from wasting food doesn't mean this food will reach the poor. India produces much more food than it consumes, but has the largest number of malnourished. Pakistan is hardly different. Most of the poor go hungry not because of wedding parties , but because of corruption , food rotting in go downs, inefficient distribution and transportation systems for food grains. On the contrary , these lavish wedding parties could provide employment to a lot of people. But again, that's my opinion, I've always held the belief that these socialist type laws never work.

Yaar ushaar terrorist ghum rahe hai , unhe nahi pakaadte se sale fattu police wale.

Aab kya admi shadi bhi dhang se na kare ? Ek baar tho shadi hoti hai use tho sahi se karne do :hitwall:

These rules and law are just funny . Tons of grain gets wasted every year due to the lack of basic infrastructure (Grain storage) and amount of money a country looses is in billions of dollars . And no no is accountable for that but u do a nice weeding and these blood sucking police is there at you door. :hitwall:

Lets not deny, good people share the extra food with poor and neighbors. It also helps the economy...

Actually, often the caterer recycles the food at another venue.

The order is placed @ per plate rates. The left over belongs to the caterer who is then free to use it elsewhere after spicing it with garnishing & ' tadka'.
