Two policemen were martyred in a targetted attack on the convoy of a police officer Wednesday morning.

Rescue officials said the vehicle of DSP Hameedullah Dasti was attacked by unidentified personnel on Samungli Road.

The DSP and his driver remained unhurt but two police officials accompanying him were killed in the attack.

The deceased have been identified as constables Mohammad Tahir and Ayub Shah.

DSP Dasti was posted in the prosecution department and was on his way to court when his vehicle was attacked.

Sources said law enforcement agencies and rescue teams reached the site of the incident after the attack and launched a search and rescue operation.

Police and security officials are often targetted in the Balochistan capital.

On January 28, a policeman was killed in Quetta's Hazarganji area in a targetted attack while on January 18, two Balochistan Constabulary officials were killed in Quetta.

Similarly, a police constable was shot dead by unidentified attackers on the city's Raisani Road on January 16.

On Jan 9, four Balochistan Constabulary personnel were among six killed in a suicide attack near the Balochistan Assembly.

Meanwhile, on Jan 2, at least five people, including two FC personnel, were injured as a result of a gun and bomb attack on a check post in the Baleli area of the provincial capital, said security sources.

    Very difficult

We have put Quetta on our ignore list years ago. Yeah if same would have been happening in Lahore then we might have surely done something about it.

It's a pot pourri. There is ethnic, sectarian and criminal elements with possible external forces [read India] pitching in to make for a turbulent situation. All this is being played out in a Balochistan - a province which resembles the Wild West before it was tamed. Huge areas of the province don't even have any real presence of the state. They have A and B areas. B areas are where there is almost no law enforcement and in fact are outside the writ of the state.

I am always staggered at how Pakistan [fanboys here sing songs about this] plans to buy more warships, submarines to extend it's reach well beyond the Pakistan coast. I mock this as "hunting down Somali pirates' but leaving large parts of Pakistan effectively out of control.

What needs to be done is a Pakistan Navy chopped by half and the savings invested in huge law enforcement makeover in Balochistan. With serious attempt at bringing stability. As it is the Shia Hazara community is facing genocide whilst our media is more concerned about the scratch of the face of some Muslim in Europe.

Ahem ahem. Can we just for a second spare PN please.

Every Provincial Government gets its fair share of developmental, security and other funds. Where are those going?
