Pakistan's biggest and most neglected mega city in the world is 127 BIllion USD only and i think it could have crossed 250 billion USD easily had we not lost decades in neglect.

Skyscrapers are ugly, non-harmonious and plainly dangerous.

Watch this vid of a UAE residential skyscraper in flames from last year.

Skyscrapers are a sign of modernity...there is no point in having cities without it..yes problems can occur..but not exceedingly so compared to low rise buildings...I heard till 68-70 follors or 250 to 300 metres..Skyscrapers make good economic sense...after that they mostly become prestige projects funded by national governments like Taipei 101, Burj Dubai etc

The more people live in a city (crowds) the more nominal GDP ..The figure is not a measurement of how livable or modern a city is (e.g good figure if you want to know how many ice creams you can sell in a given city!). Example: Mexico city at no 7 and Toronto Canada at 22....and for those who have not been in Toronto....Supermodern north american city..not moving to mexico city..lol

This is the GDP in 2019, and it should not be in 2020.This is the GDP in 2019, and it should not be higher in 2020 than in 2019. I don't know if this data is correct.

The list is not correct, China has at least 4 cities with GDP much bigger than Hong kong, namely, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou.
On this list Hong kong ranks 14, Shanghai 16 and Beijing is nowhere to find...

Skyscrapers are a methodology borrowed from 1950s American arrangement of cities. Obsolete.

OTOH what is correct about America is its suburbs system : two-storey houses with lawn and one tree at least, with the lawn leading to a good-sized footpath and a wide road. Calm area.

A good city should have residential areas arranged as above plus offices and malls which are horizontally spread as per their purpose, instead of vertical. The offices having gardens as well.

Another good thing... a wonderful things in fact, would be to ban all privately-owned personal transport vehicles and make taxi system and mass public transport system ( ideally buses ) more efficient and more in number. I have been speaking of this on PDF for two years I think and a few weeks ago the Saudi crown prince announced a planned Saudi city called NEOM where private cars won't be allowed, or needed. And @_NOBODY_ told me of a similar Chinese project called Tencent City.

Add to that four to five storey Vertical Farms and general Urban Farms ( for trees ) at neighborhood level.

Skyscrapers make good economic sense
What do you mean ?

We should limit buildings height. Upto 40 stories are good. Anything above that scares me.
Well, as you can read above I would go for drastically less than that. Four or max five storeys and the buildings proofed for fire and earthquake.

The world can not sustain such a model. This will have too many negative environmental impacts . Lawn require more water than you can think. Suburb system will also mean more area covered by less people's which is not sustainable in a world full of 7.5 billion people and still growing. You see near you, cities are expanding to agricultural lands near them. If you want to skip using agricultural land, than you will have to clear land through deforestation.

Now you may say we can built cities in deserts too like Dubai. Well not every country have hundreds of billion to spend on constructing and sustaining a single city like Dubai. You should know it cost tens of millions $ per year just to water the palm and other road side trees in Dubai. And creating number of lawns equal to number of houses on such a land means too much water usage. Which is unsustainable.

We have no choice but to keep skyscrapers, but I also believe they should be limited to 40 stories at max, and only in designated areas of the cities, like 20-25% of the city. Remaining 75-80% suburb style.
Well, as you can read above I would go for drastically less than that. Four or max five stories and the buildings proofed for fire and earthquake
I am a civil engineer. An inadequately designed 4 stories building is more deadly than adequately "safe" designed 40 stories.

Factors affecting :

Design adequacy
Design sustainability
Safe soil conditions and stability
Workmanship
Materials
Employed construction Practices and QC/QA

İstanbul is supermodern too which were hundreds of billions of Dollars projects in İstanbul in the last 15 years ( modern airport , hospitals , schools , buildings , skyscrapers , bridges , roads , stadiums , sport centers , high speed railways , underground network , etc )

İstanbul is in top 30 cities in the world to live

Skyscrapers are ugly, non-harmonious and plainly dangerous.

Watch this vid of a UAE residential skyscraper in flames from last year.
only rich cities, such as Frankfurt, London, Paris, Istanbul and Moscow contains skyscrapers in Europe or Dubai in the Middle East ( with great economic power )

so , In general, only very large cities have the resources to build and support extremely tall buildings

With the explosion of urbanization around the world and developing economies asserting themselves in high profile ways, the stage is set for a global skyscraper boom

Cities in Europe with buildings over 150 metres

Istanbul : 45 ( more 7 under construction )
Moscow : 31 ( more 11 under construction )
London : 27 ( more 22 under construction )
Paris : 17 ( more 8 under construction )
Frankfurt :14 ( more 4 under construction )

Chinese ICBC buys Istanbul's second tallest high-rise for $594 Million

The largest bank in the world by assets, deposits and loans, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has purchased the Istanbul Tower 205 project, which rises in the city's most prestigious and priciest location

There are cities that due to being located on a geographical fault lines the tall sky scrapers are not allowed. Tehran is one of those cities with 4 fault lines. The city planners opted for lower high rises and more spread out landscape with efficient highways connecting the various parts...here are some photos.
