BTW, this $5,000 EV is the cheapest expressway-legal 4 seater EV available on this planet.
Price range from 28,888 cny (4,234 usd) to 38,888 cny (5,700 usd) with a range of 120-170km depending on models.
Great car. Mostly used as a second family car for housewives to pickup their kids from school and buying groceries, etc. although you can drive it on the highway with a speed of 100+ kph.

it's too ugly, should have gone for a sportier look. How many miles can it do per charge?
Beutiful or ugly, it is a subjective issue. A lot of people like this boxy design, just like the K-cars, great use of space and very practical design. And you don't want a $5,000, actually a $4,000 'sporty' car, do you?

The OP is sad because his beloved Tesla fell into 2nd position in EV sales here in China, although still sold ~10,000 per month here... This baby sold ~15,000 the first month of launching, with 50,000 on booking list.
However, I don't think he has to worry too much about this, because we Chinese are not like indians, who would add motorcycle or 3 wheelers sales to their 'auto' sales figure... We know the difference between the sales of ~10,000 Tesla vs this tiny cute baby car...

This car is no threat to Tesla. It might be small and cheap but it barely seats 2 people and needs charging daily.

Let's see when thier $25K car comes out.

Personally I expect people to commute much less so vehicles like this will have a reduced market.
With $20K, you can get these models:
A pure electric SUV the size of Honda CRV, with a range of ~500km
or this:
starts from 149,800 cny or 21,900 usd, with 510 km of range, dimension: L*W*H 4630*1910*1655mm, 2830mm wheelbase lengh.. All safety features including electronic stability control etc. come as standard. And an amazing infotainment system:

Or any models below all have the size of a Honda CRV, and a range of at least 400km or more, and all safety feature mentioned above, and infotainment system as well: and sold for ~20,000 USD:
this

Or this

Or this

etc. etc.

what percentage of Chinese can afford a 149,800 cny price vehicle?
What vehicle price in the US would a 149,800 cny priced vehicle be equivalent to?
Looking online, the Kia Niro EV, range only 239 miles, is supposedly starts around $40k. Honda's would be priced higher.

Judging from the average annual salary of workers in the public sector, it is 90,501 cny per year in 2019, assuming 2 workforce per family, that is 181,000 cny per year, and with the expenses deducted, I think vast majority of such families have no problem to afford a 149,800 cny car. Those work in the private sectors may earn less, could still afford to buy a car of 149,800 cny price tag, but takes longer period of savings:

For the price of EV, I think Chinese car companies today produce the most value for money EVs in the world, partially due to China's huge battery industry, and the low price of auto parts, etc.
As for the range, you can multiply it by 1.4 to be comparable to the NCED range as it is tested using EPA method, which will make it 450km.

In particular, China's output of steel, which is used as a framework for automobiles, is more than that of the rest of the world combined.

Think about this Tesla scam in the US. Due to fraud of the US stock market, Tesla share price makes it MORE VALUABLE THAN ALL THE CAR COMPANIES COMBINED ON THE PLANET !:omghaha: And when you compare it with only one car company like Toyota which sold MILLIONS of cars, and its share price to income is FANTASTIC, Tesla sold only a few THOUSAND CARS AND HAS A PATHETIC income. BUT DUE TO THE FRAUD FINANCIAL MOBSTERS IN USA, Tesla is more valuable then ALL CAR COMPANIES COMBINED!! Even a Donkey these days would know that this is all a FRAUD!! :omghaha::omghaha::rofl:

Makes no sense. Small and little cars don't sell in the volumes needed in the US. Americans are HUGE. Those who are not HUGE are often quite well off and would buy a more expensive option. Better to only sell it in China. I say only China because most nations don't even have reliable electrical grids. Of those that do electricity is often really expensive.

it is not fraud or a crime. It is the free market. Free market is full of idiots. World is full of stupid people who give their savings to other stupid people. Stupid people have made Musk and his allies VERY rich.

Read from the first line we know this is a B.S. article:
1601178633417.png

This tiny little cute bady has not hing to do with GM. either its platform, its motors or its battery, while this B.S. article written by an idiot want to make people believe it is GM who make this most affordable cute EV for Chinese...
Just pathetic....
GM is only the second share holder of SAIC-GM-WULING. The largest share holder is SAIC, the Chinese company. GM is only known for making GMC/Chevrolet trucks... Even those middle size, or compact cars, sedans are designed by Daewoo...

Does this look pretty and tasty to you? It's affordable for you , only 1.99GBP? Seems the mass production and popularity in the Indian market has allowed prices to drop:-

These Hindutva Nutjobs are trying to export their freaky ideas, but other countries have health standards, unlike India....be on the lookout people. Kudos to whoever spots and reports this.

In the UK of course it's the Council Health and Safety folks.

In the US it will be your county health dept. (same folks who do store and restaurant healthy safety inspections and assign grades like 'A','B', 'C' etc.).

You cannot (repeat cannot) legally sell this outside India as a food product for human consumption.

The store can be sued.
