"In a suspected case of the deadly Ebola virus, health officials on Saturday night detained and placed under OBSERVATION a 25-year-old man who arrived from the Republic of Guinea at the Chennai Airport. He has been kept in the isolation ward of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where his health is being closely monitored by a team of doctors and staff who have taken the precautionary measures recommended.

According to details emerging at the hospital on Sunday morning, the person arrived from the Western African nation to proceed towards his home in Theni district of Tamil Nadu. A team of health workers who have been put at the airport to check all passengers arriving from the Western African region, where the Ebola virus spread has been reported by the WHO, detained the passenger on precautionary grounds and transferred him to the hospital. The flight arrived at 8.45 p.m. and he was quickly transferred to the hospital. He has been placed under observation in the isolation ward 215.

Doctor S. Raghunandan, deputy medical superintendent OF the hospital, told reporters that a separate team of doctors and health workers have been deputed to observe the patient. They have all been provided with special goggles, gloves and boots which would be used while accessing the patient.

“As of now the patient is asymptomatic. A blood sample to Pune (National Institute of Virology) and the results expected within the next 24 to 48 hours. We are monitoring his temperature every four hours. If the blood results are negative for Ebola virus, we would transfer him to a local facility near his home but will continue to incubate and monitor him for a period of 20 days," the doctor added."

If you want to know scary , go check the thread i made on the CDC report on Ebola

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Ebola
If Ebola manages to spread widely in Nigeria, that is when things get screwed.

The fact that invisible little viruses is the scariest thing known to Mankind, and has killed more Humans than anything is a scary thought.

Indian government better not mess around.

We can't fight with mosquitos; Not sure how would we deal with the unknowns
whenever SARS H1N1 type diseases come along, there is almost a hysteria that is different from terror attacks. Maybe it is because something you can't really fight against.

it's more scary in a place like India because the authorities might not be as competent to deal with a situation like this, wonder if they have any training at all.. + proper equipment, how secure are the containment/isolation facilities etc :undecided:

Let me add a few points of relief :

1. Ebola DOES NOT spread through AIR like SARS or FLU.
2. Ebola Patients can be Treated in Proper Isolation Facilities.
3. Patients in US have been showing good recovery.
4. The worst Spread of Ebola in Africa is mainly due to non availabilty of Proper Medical Facilities n Practices.
5. Ebola can be Faught with Right Strategy.
