South India lags behind national fertility rate, slows population boom - The Times of India

I think this is a bit funny and alarming.

Funny because the headline makes it sound as if its a national competition and southern states are lagging behind and alarming because the TFR is well below the percentage for a population to sustain itself. Well what can i say, people just need to spend more time in their bedrooms.

p.s: UPs and Bihari gentlemen, the above advice is not for you..Kindly ignore :D

overpopulation has become the biggest headache for the country sometimes I feel forced sterilization during Indira Gandhi's time was a good move

The nos paint a clear picture

National average fertility Rate - 2.5
    TN - 1.7
    AP, Kerala - 1.8
    Karnataka - 2

    U.P - 3.7
    Bihar - 3.5

Unlike their southern counterparts, the northern states are showing an increase in fertility rate.

Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, though, have the highest fertility rates in the country, experts say. :yahoo:

2 is a healthy rate..with increase in female education the age of marriage is also increased in women which also contributed to the decrease in the population rate.its good to have balance.good thing is southern states also have a decent sex ratio which keeps things in balance

    Dude gulti hain na ?

Our TFR is well below the sustainable rate. So unless it increases you will have a population shrinkage here which is not good..:frown:. Most of the European countries today are facing that problem only,

In the land of Kamasutra and Khajuraho it is a bad thing lagging behind in the fertility rate. ;) - India was leading on the population front and because of this damn southies and Punjabis, India is falling behind. Well done UP,MP,Bihar, Rajasthan.

Its not a bad thing. They are kind of compensating for the high rates of UP and Bihar.

UP and Bihar however need to tone down - and they will with economic growth. Maybe a decade more.

Tech Savvy South Indians are spending more time in front of the computer than in their bed room. No wonder Mulayam Singh was against the use of computer. Now you know why UP has one of the highest fertility rates. Pretty sure even here in PDF you have more Southies than Northies.
