Good idea as long as DRDO completes the work on time but they should not go for old planes rather get new ones.
While a lot of people ridicule DRDO, it really depends on which particular department or sub-org of DRDO is handling the project. For instance, DRDO's missiles and helo departments are among the best. ADA has also significantly improved with the whole LCA project. AWACS is handled by DRDO's CABS, LRDE and DEAL departments and the timeline for development and deployment of our first three Netra AWACS was pretty fast. I'd expect them to do much better in this case

Also, Air India's A321-200 and Air India Express' Boeing 737-800 are the two candidate for this project

It's our Air Force then Navy then Army in conventional wars
For you guys, I think it's your AF, Army and Navy
They got the idea from Brazil and Embrae
yup! they have finally learnt from Pakistan, who has recently brought commercial Saab 2Ks and installed Erieye AESA radars on them taking our fleet to 11 AWACS in total.
That's a load of BS...our initial three Netra AWACS which were developed around 2010 are based on Embraer ERJ-145 which are generally used as commercial regional planes. Instead of procuring newer ones, we're using Air India's fleet now

Indian poodles and lap dogs of Murican jumping onto the BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK naming and wanking themselves as silly as Muricans hoping the BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK will endow whatever the shit they named with Wakanda Vibranium powers.:D:D:D

Will the Indians be getting Stan Lee from beyond his grave as advisor in the weapons that they desired?:pleasantry::pleasantry::pleasantry:

Using burned cowdung and sprinkling cow urine and chanting sacred vedic mantras to get Stan Lee?

:omghaha: :omghaha::omghaha:

Actually Embraer delivered the modified airframes with slots for AWACS gear. The customer has to design the system to fit in the slots

great news for defence of india .

Great news for Pakistan defence too! You will have 10 different planes of three different types. All of which are operated only by India.

Do you realise the expense and complexity?

This is even assuming DRDO can get a working prototype flying within 10 years.

Will be fun watching the next 10 years of

"Initial funds agreed", "MOU agreed", "authourisation of contract", "contract terms agreed", "contract signed", "integration delays", "finance delays", "first prototype ready", "problems with first prototype" , "first initial capability prototype flying", "setting up facilities", "faults found", "CAG report saying funds overspent", "problems with radar", "full capability plane ready" etc etc etc.

You know, the usual crap you guys come up and pretend is progress when the project is a disaster. Anyway, best wishes, I genuinely hope India pours a lot of money into this.

Yes, one area that India actually had an edge over PAF for many years (PAF had no AEW and IAF had 3 Phalcons for much of the 90s and early 2000s).

PAF took AEW very seriously, especially after Red Flag and Anatolian Eagle exercises,

Now it has not only caught up but comfortably surpassed the IAF in having 7 Erieyes and 4 ZDK AEWs.

Essentially letting the PAF to have at least 3 planes up in the air at anyone time during hostilities.

That worries me as no Pak Navy doesn't participate in US exercise...like Malabar ... as we can get a lot of learning...
PN has been doing better than that, it has patricpated and commanded CTF-151 and CTF-150 under US Central Command for last 15 years. Gained a lot of learning in terms of combined maritime ops, and saw the need for large and sophisticated MPA fleet many years ago
