    Sightseeing .... more double deckers

LAHORE: Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) has added three more double-decker buses to its existing fleet for Sightseeing Lahore, the country’s first tour bus service.

Punjab Minister for Excise and Taxation Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman inaugurated the double-decker buses for operation on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said Lahore was a city of gardens, culture, ancient civilisations and vibrant people. After the success of Sightseeing Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif decided to add more double-decker buses for citizens.

He said the chief minister was pleased to inaugurate the first Sightseeing Lahore double-decker bus on November 25, 2015. The project aimed to showcase the magnificent cultural and architectural heritage of Lahore, including its recent urban development.

The project started with two international standard double-decker buses which were procured through international tendering at a cost of Rs30 million. The capacity of each bus is 67 people—49 on the upper deck and 18 on the lower deck.

The project has aesthetically pleasing and tourist-friendly terminals, mechanism for organised bookings, trained drivers as well as staff and guides. Sightseeing Lahore offers free rides for children up to 10 years of age, senior citizens and differently-abled people. The general ticket rate is Rs200, while students have to pay Rs100.

Stakeholders as well as visitors from abroad and other provinces of Pakistan have appreciated the landmark initiative. The minister disclosed that over 108,799 people such as students, including those who are differently abled, corporate sector employees and NGOs working with special persons have taken advantage of the project.

TDCP has completed the process of procuring three more buses, which arrived in Lahore. Volvo Pakistan Limited was the successful bidder and it provided new buses with the same specifications without any increase in cost.

The extension of Terminal One at Punjab Stadium on Ferozepur Road has also been completed.

Peak season was observed between November and April. The existing two buses were deemed insufficient to cater to the ever-growing demand. Authorities hoped to eliminate the deficiency through the new vehicles.

    It is really good.

If you haven't seen Lahore, you haven't seen the best of urban Pakistan.

Sightseeing works in Lahore because it is a historical place.
