Gwadar seaport’s security, surveillance and safety of maritime CPEC route are the additional tasks of Pakistan Maritime security agency. As CPEC is rapidly getting momentum the responsibilities of PMSA are also becoming more. PMSA recently inducted 2 new vessels in its fleet PMSS BASOL & HINGOL, These vessels are capable of supporting helicopters but unfortunately PMSA air wing does not have any.Last Defender aircraft was inducted in 2004.

After viewing recent pictures of PMSS BASOL and Hingol it’s hard to say that these 600 ton vessels are really capable of handling a helicopter landing or just a deck for Air drops/picks. Here first tender document of PMSA give us some hints.

    Main Characteristics

    2.1.1 Ship Type

The ship shall be designed and constructed as semi planning vessel with

single continuous deck, raked stem, flaring freeboard, transom stern and

round bilge fitted with spray strips and one pair of anti rolling fins. Propelled

by four fixed pitch propellers driven by four marine diesel engines and

steered by four rudders with a separate helo landing and take-off deck.

    =====================

    3.3 Landing and Take-off Facility

Landing and Take-off facility (Flight Deck) shall be provided for Search and

Rescue helicopter (Suitable for SAR Helicopter of approx. weight of 5.5 tons).

    1500 ton vessel

    Helicopter Deck Support System

Following helicopter deck support facilities shall be provided:

    1. Take-Off/Landing platform and relative facilities.

    2.Helicopter lashing and Ianding devices.

    3.Light landing aids system.

    4. Electricity supplies.

    5.Aviation fuel system.

    6.Safety and fire-fighting facilities.

    7.Communication and guidance facilities

PMSA need a good air wing to effectively perform its tasks by its own. Such as Anti-Smuggling, Anti-Narcotics, Search and Rescue, Protection of Fisheries, and Natural Resources within EEZ/CPEC.

In emergency in sea DIAL 1331 not 1122 (if you find the network in EEZ) :)

Current helicopters used by Pakistan Navy (PMSA works under ministry of defence)

    Z9 helo

    Empty weight:
    2,050 kg (4,519 lb)
Max takeoff weight: 4,100 kg (4.1 tons)

    Aérospatiale Alouette III
    Gross weight: 2,200 kg
PMSA requied new platform which suits its maritime Airborne operations .particularly
    PRIMARY ROLES
    Area Surveillance
    Anti Smuggling
    Anti Narcotics
    Search and Rescue
    Intelligence Gathering
Protection of Fisheries and Natural Resources within EEZ
Airbus H145M /Md 530G etc would be a plus factor in PMSA first responder role

MoD of Pakistan has Jet Rangers under it.

Untill new acquisitions are made , jet rangers would be fine.

The PMSA would further benefit if the Coast Guard of Pakistan is assimilated into it. It would benefit in operations and manpower.

    Further avoid duplication of roles.

There is no issue with Jet ranger or any other helicopter.unfortunately PMSA have none.Yes MoD Have jetrangers/cobras/z10 etc etc but PMSA can not use them independently ,means it comes under coordination umbrella.Atleast PMSA website shows zero inventory.

As new boats give PMSA extra strength, the next step is of helicopters/drones for Pmsa air wing ,so that it can operate independently.minimum atleast 2-4 .
600 Tons not look good for landing.the deck have some obstacles

Yes duplication is there. But mith is divided between.ministry of interior & Defence :(

I agree with you, but in Pakistan these are 2 different organization with different roles and reporting. PMSA is a branch of PN. is most other navies PMSA roles is either done by Cost guard like US or by Indian or Bangladeshi navy directly. As these navies incorporate patrol ships in large numbers. in PN, they only have ships/ boats with offensive character.

in my opinion Coast Guard and PMSA should be merged under navy as CMSA Pakistan. But then they have to report to ministry of interior not PN and that will create a defense vacuum in PN as major chunk of its force will be transferred to Ministry of interior.

No offence folks but for a brand new Ship this paint job sucks , what is this black color at rear ? and the dirty black paint job above PMSA word ? Seems like Black paint residue is coming off and making white paint dirtier

    :tsk:

Can this ship get its proper dues , its a brand new Ship need to be sparkling clean

Either make it all Black or all white
