India's prices are the best.
Indian govt is set to earn nearly $50 billion from tax on petrol/diesel in 2021 (more than revenue of Pakistan and Bangladesh governments).
It's not the best. It used to be best when 2/4 wheelers used to be a luxury. With rising middle class and our roads clogged with 2/4 wheelers high prices are not welcome. Either the govt keeps prices artificially high to promote electric vehicles as a long term option or the govt couldn't generate revenue from other sources.

The key is to raise them gradually, and not decrease them when crude oil prices fall. The market will adapt, and the increased revenue will help the government balance its books better.
Yes. But currently there is a need to increase prices by Rs. 2-3. Prices in international market are increasing gradually. If we wait now, we will have to increase prices by PKR 10 per litre atleast.

Luckily, international crude prices are relatively low still. Let us see what happens when the global economy picks up this year.

We have to consider how much that is relative to the average income of each country. I suspect a Chinese worker can afford 1 litre of petrol easier than a Pakistani worker can. I just paid 285rs for a litre of Diesel in the UK, but it makes no difference to me, I earn a lot more than that, most people do.

The truth is that Pakistan can only do so much to keep fuel cheap, in reality Pakistan must evolve to survive without fossil fuels. We can only do this through renewable energy.

We need a massive national shift to solar, tidal, hydro and wind power for our domestic, commercial and industrial use. We need to even use electric stoves rather than gas stoves. We need electrified mass public transport.

Gas/coal/Oil should be last resorts for our energy, not the first port of call.
Man I am livid. I used £60 worth of diesel in just one week. That too in just one car. The cost to fill the other one is over £50 too.

£60 = 13, 270 Rupees, just cost of one week motoring. I cannot believe it.
Pakistani politicians are going to criticise UK Government that it is rubbish and doesn't know how to run the country!! :sarcastic: :sarcastic: :sarcastic:

If not , why criticise Pakistani government. It is international commodity. Reflect International prices and trends.

The govt is losing precious taxation good, after electricity.
I hope, this would produce more economic activity that out-shadow what can govt get from taxes.
This goes back to Pakistani awaam not paying taxes or when paying taxes they are lowest in region. Look at the differance with Bangla, India or Nepal. It is almost half the price. Govrnment revenue would in increase by $ billions and there would be no need for IMF etc loans.

Instead the awaam want JF Tunders, VT tanks, aircraft carriers, roads, hospitals etc without paying any tax.

But it's not possible because there will be a uproar and opposition parties will jump on this.
What about petrol card? no body can buy petrol w/o the card!! so anybody exceeds lets say 300 litre a month, then he has to pay say 250 Rs/litre. Each car/vehicle should have a petrol card instead of person.

@PaklovesTurkiye @Norwegian @_NOBODY_
@Indos does Indonesia produces oil, sufficient for its needs?

Mentioned in past posts that Pakistan has cheap petrol and residential electricity compared other similar countries in Asia......but commercial/industrial electric rates are much higher when compared other similar countries in Asia. This hurts manufacturing competitiveness when compared to other similar countries in Asia.

Pakistan's tragedy is it is actually one of the most natural resource deprived in the world. All these Indonesians, Malays, Australians, Indians, Arabs, Iranians and even Africans are floating on some sort of natural resource.

We are just left to make babies, rear them and then export them as labour ...

Indonesian natural resource exports

  • Mineral fuels including oil: US$25.6 billion (15.7% of total exports)
  • Animal/vegetable fats, oils, waxes: $20.7 billion (12.7%)
  • Iron, steel: $10.8 billion (6.6%)
  • Gems, precious metals: $8.2 billion (5%)
This totals $62 billion. Three times Pakistan's total exports.

Singapore developed much faster then Malaysia or Indonesia....and it has no natural resources. All it had was labor....that it quickly educated and supported to be productive and efficient. Western Europe and East Asia are low in natural resources as well. Pakistan has very high per capita solar and hydro energy potential in comparison.

Problem has been poor decisions by past elites. Focusing on expensive fuel oil based energy and not developing our indigenous solar or hydro resources. Or focusing on inefficient government run jobs programs that are passed off as industry.

Or not spending enough on mineral exploration. Thar coal was only discovered in the late 80's (and that too by USAID)....imagine if it had been found and developed in the 60's. Pakistan (and Afghanistan) probably have a large amounts of undiscovered resources. What has the Pakistan Geologic survey been up too.

Western Europe and East Asia
I live in Western Europe and I can tell you these guys are probably the luckiest in terms of natural resources - indeed this is what powered the industrial revolution. Leaving others just UK -

  • amongst biggest coal reserves in world
  • amongst biggest iron reserves in world
  • huge tin mines
  • huge oil reserves
  • huge gas reserves
  • etc

And East Asia is another mother lode of resources. Manchuria, Brunie, Indonesia, Malaysia etc are loaded.

Thar coal
Thar Coal reserves are some of the lowest quality on earth - with lw methene index but high water content. They only just about became economical recently thanks to Chinese technology. And if Pakistan is so loaded why are the Chinese pulling $10s of billions of coal, iron etc from Australia given that country is endemic with hatred of Chinese?

By keeping levy to lowest possible (Rs4.80), Pakistan is offering competitive petrol prices to the consumers.
Here's the regional comparison of petrol prices :

should be atleast 150...if pak wants to emulate reserves of bangladesh and india...its loosing too much revenue by keeping prices low...let people who afford drive..stop unnecessary fuel consumption..save nature and economy

Western Europe has little iron...its in the north in Scandinavia. Western Europe has almost no coal. Most of Europe's coal is in the east...in Germany and Poland and it too is mostly low quality lignite. North Sea oil and gas can't meet Europe's needs ..that why they import from Russia and ME. Plus it was found and developed in the 70's.....I do credit the European for mineral exploration something Pakistan doesn't do.

With your broad regional associations....Pakistan is loaded with oil gas because its present in the gulf. And Iron because its in Iran and India.

All Pakistan has to do is the opposite of what its past elites/rulers have done...and it will be in great shape.
