    I read that on some website but have tried to google for "APG-68, PS-05/A" and found nothing to suggest they are related. I don't think its true ... ... or maybe they share a few components, not enough to make one a version of the other! Like the JFT being a version of the Mig-29 because of the RD33/RD93 and the Zhuk>>Zhamchug>>KLJ-7 relationship!

    lot depends on the power of each T/R and the cooling system

    Both 14th insistute and the National Radar/Electrionics Insititue (NREI) have produced prototype AESA radars for J-20, both prototype radars are X-band AESA radar and contain 2000+ T/R modules, there is a open competition there and 14th insitute won the competition easily (14th insistute is considerably larger and finanically stronger than NREI), thus their AESA has been selected as the radar for this fighter roughly 2 years ago.

    Because there was no plan to increase the Rafale’s nose diameter, the new radar will occupy much the same volume as the present set, though some equipment will have to be removed or relocated. Some believe that the opportunity should have been taken to increase the diameter of Rafale’s nose to allow a larger diameter array to be fitted, and that the present 55-cm diameter array will be deficient in range compared to the AESA arrays in, or planned for the F-15, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and Typhoon.

    KLJ-7 Airborne Radar
    The KLJ-7 is an X-band airborne fire-control radar (FCR) uses a mechanically-steered slotted array antenna. The KLJ-7 has multiple modes, both beyond-visual-range (BVR) and close-in air-to-air modes, ground surveillance modes and a robust anti-jamming capability. The radar can reportedly manage up to 40 targets, monitor up to 10 of them in track-while-scan (TWS) mode and simultaneously fire on two BVR targets.

    * Frequency : X-band
    * A mechanically-steered slotted array antenna
    * 14 Operational Modes
    * Range more than 100 km
    * Total targets tracked: 10 in TWS (Track-While-Scan) mode
    * Reliability:
    o MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure): 220 hours
    o MTTR (Mean Time To Recovery): 0.5 hours
    * Weight less than 120 kg
