PM Hasina thanks Modi for gifting 2m doses of COVID-19 vaccine

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today extended her heartiest greetings to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for giving Bangladesh two million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as a gift.

“You know the Coronavirus vaccine that India provided us as a gift has already arrived. I thank the Indian Prime Minister for that reason. The vaccines which we have bought will arrive by January 25 to 26,” she said.

The Prime Minister was addressing as the chief guest virtually in the inaugural session of the historic international e-conference titled “Celebrating the 100 Years of the University of Dhaka: Reflections from the Alumni-International and National” from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

Dhaka University organized the conference at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus this evening.

Referring to the government measures in purchasing the Covid-19 vaccines, the Prime Minister said, “We are taking all the required measures to face the coronavirus.”
She also said that her government has a plan to proceed with the vaccine.

The premier said the entire world came to a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic hoping that the situation will end one day.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni spoke at the function as the special guest while eminent economist Professor Rehman Sobhan read out the keynote paper.

Vice Chancellor (VC) of the DU Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function while convener of the conference convening committee Prof Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed moderated it.

DU Pro-VC (admin) Prof Dr. Muhammad Samad read out a citation on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while its Pro-VC (academic) Prof Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal gave vote of thanks to the premier and others for taking part at the programme.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, the DU vice-chancellor earlier received a souvenir marking the birth centenary of Dhaka University from its teacher Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed.

Lol, India's home grown vaccine is as bad as of not taking the vaccine. There was no clinical trial conducted and it's being pushed to fill in the pockets of Industrialists. There is nothing in this world called, "Free". Good luck to those million people taking these doses.

2 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca is a generous gift from India.
Oxford-AstraZeneca has been trialed in many countries it isn't an Indian vaccine. It is license produced in India.

What has Pakistan done for the world lately?

The Oxford Zeneca vaccine produced by the Serum institute has had the LARGEST test of any vaccine produced in the world. All the tens of thousands of test results are in the PUBLIC DOMAIN and can be searched. Published by both Lancet and WHO. This vaccine is approved by WHO and at least 80% of al UK RESIDENTS WILL BE IMMUNISED BY THIS SAME VACCINE. I assume you think WHO , the whole of the European union, and practically the whole of the UK are stupid. The vaccine PROVIDED TO NEPAL BANGLADESH MAURITIOUS SEYSELCES SRI LANKA BHUTAN etc is the Oxford -Zeneca Vaccine manufactured at the Serum Institute of India.
If you know how to read , you will notice that Pakistani companies are in touch with the Serum Institute to SELL them some Covid vaccines ASAP. Even they do not trust the Chinese killer vaccine with fake and basic trials.

I heard some people actually died from arrhythmia and breathing difficulties after being injected with COVAXIN.

These Indian medical approval people are butchers, allowing this to happen.

The sign of a bhakt is when they take pride in even unproven products being made in India.

Where is the proof of testing in India?

Nationalistic chest thumping by Modi no less.

India had 50 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine stockpiled at the end of last year and can produce 100 million doses per month and so has no need for any other vaccine.

It isn't, they are approved by scientists for emergency use. Talks have been going on for over 2 months on emergency approval from the scientific community.

Actually no. We have only bought 100 million doses. The rest is pre-orders from other countries, more than 50 countries have ordered from Serum Institute, and the government needs to clear it before the company loses its orders.

Both were sick before taking vaccine and autopsy showed their death had nothing to do with vaccination. There is still vaccination going on, over one Lakh covaxin has been already given. Covaxin has been peer-reviewed for the first two phases by the lancet. Phase 3 results and review will soon follow.

Get this, Vaccination is not all-out death proof injection. People are going to have a reaction to it, any death caused by the vaccine will immediately stop the trial and results in cancellation of the vaccine altogether.

1. India already has a good level of "herd immunity" as infections have fallen through the floor over the last 4-5 months.

2. Most of India is warm and sunny.

3. Indian population is quite young(life expectancy of 68 years) and rather slim.

What is this massive need for anything other than the 100 million doses of the Oxford vaccine at this moment?

1. Heard immunity is a dangerous myth. We have new UK strains cases coming up more.

2. That'll be another myth. Cold or hot, Corona can survive in high temperatures, even if what you say is true, North Indian cities temperature drop below 20 degrees.

3. Yeah, but we don't have our immunocompromised and old people to die. Young people may have higher resilience but it doesn't mean they can't spread Corona around.

For the Corona to not resurface, get nearly 300-400 million people vaccinated, that's the old and immunocompromised people.

1.What else explains the massive drop in infections since September last year in India? Weather in north India getting much colder, people spending more time indoors and infections have dropped 80%.
As for new strains, have proper border controls and India cannot import more virulent strains.
Worry about new infectious strains inside India once they happen.

2. Myth? Warm and sunny weather is proven to rapidly degrade corona.
Also it allows windows to be kept open and people to spend more time outside. Look at infections rates dropping down to almost zero in Europe last summer as evidence. Obviously if you are like the USA or Brazil where the leaders(ex now for USA) do not take it seriously at all, then some people will not carry out any precautions and still catch the virus in warm and sunny weather.
I did say more than half of India is warm during winter and not the whole of it and so please read my posts more carefully going forward.

3. Like I say India is a young country with a life expectancy of 69 years.
India has only 52 million people over 70 and so where does this number of 300-400 million come from??
Are you saying 250-350 million Indians are immunocompromised?
While it needs more than 100 million doses(50 million people) eventually it is not that urgent that you need to inject a vaccine that has not gone through the proper phase 3 trials like AstraZeneca/Pfizer and Moderna.

PS - UK strain can be defeated by the same antibodies and T-cells like the other ones after research carried out in UK, and so if a country like India that has a lot of people that have already been infected, it will still find it harder to spread than if the population had lower exposure to the virus like say a country like Pakistan.

Modi is an uneducated dangerous nationalist that is using the Indian population to complete phase 3 trails on the Indian vaccine, and wag the nationalistic flag at the same time.
