    Peace in South Asia linked to Kashmir solution

    Seeking early peaceful settlement to Kashmir issue, AJK President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan said on Tuesday that “Kashmir Issue is a long standing issue and needs early solution as per the aspirations and wishes of Kashmiri people.

    “While negotiating this Issue, Kashmiris should be taken into confidence and involved in deliberations at all level. Without their participation, no durable solution to Kashmir issue can be found out”, he was speaking at the 9th Convocation of University of AJ&K held here Tuesday at City Campus Muzaffarabad, where 3,512 graduating students of MA/MSc, BA/BSc/BED, MSc Agriculture, BSc, Agriculture, MSc Engineering, BSc, Engineering, BS Geology, BSc, Home Economics, BBA,MBA, MCom/MPA, BFA, BS Ed and BCom were awarded degrees.

    As many as 40 students were decorated with gold medals on the occasion.

    Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, also Chancellor AJK University continued that “If we really want to make progress, we will have to increase our higher education capacity by increasing the number of institutions of higher learning. At present, most of the students are denied admissions in the disciplines of their choice thus posing an alarming situation.”

    The AJK president said that the government had established two medical colleges at Muzaffarabad and Mirpur which would start functioning by this year providing an access open the door of medical education on the students of the area. He said that the 3rd medical college would soon be established at Rawalakot. Sardar Yaqoob Khan informed that the Prime Minister of Pakistan had also announced the up-gradation of Rawalakot Campus of the AJK University to a full-fledged University.

    The directive to this effect has also been issued and the establishment of the University is to be materialized in a couple of months,” he added. He said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan had also announced the establishment of IT University at Kotli which would be established in near future. “I have arranged adequate funds for Rawalakot Campus of the University. The mobilization advance will be released to the firm and construction work will be started soon”, he added. The AJK president thanked the Pakistani PM for having shown keen interest in the promotion of higher education in the AJK.

    He showed his satisfaction that the university had established the ‘Students Support Fund’ and announced a grant of Rs500,000 for the fund.

    While congratulating graduating Students and their parents, the President said, “You have been awarded degrees, medals and transcripts by the University, yet the process of learning is continued, it is a never ending process. What seems an end is, in fact, a beginning the spirit needs several sorts of foods of which knowledge is only one”.

    Speaking on occasion, AJK University Vice Chancellor Dr Habibur Rehman congratulated the graduating students and wished them a successful future. He said “The University is proud of your performance and achievements. I am certain that you will prove to be an asset to our nation and contribute towards the progress of the country”. He hoped that they would continue to display the same degree of commitment in the future.

    He showed his satisfaction that in the recent evaluation, Quality Enhancement Cell of the University (QEC) had been placed in the category ‘W’, the highest category in the ranking of the universities.

    While reviewing the progress of the university he said, “the Institute of Kashmir Studies has been revived and Master’s degree classes have been started.
