Though Michael Jackson is a legend at break dance, a robot, made in Pakistan, can beat even him. This robot is run through computer programming software and is first of its kind in Pakistan. Robots are being used in unprecedented ways in the modern world. These modern bots are popular throughout the world but this robot is first of its kind in Pakistan that dances on the beats of music. The robot was at a local mall in Karachi where it danced to the beat of Michael Jackson’s songs and other super-hit tunes. The most interesting moment was when the robot shocked everyone by dancing on the beat of international hit Gangnam Style.

While I appreciate any step towards better technology for a better society, I don't agree with the part about
Pakistan not being far behind - infact you are very far behind the leaders, especially in terms of programming, which
is what runs any robot, software, or even manufacturing of electronics.

When the first stable, programmable robot was manufacture?

You will get the idea, if this development in Pakistan just started few years back, how quickly we have covered those decays in merely years, so I don't think difference of 8 years can't be managed in some more years. And who told you we don't manufacture electronics? It's been ages we are doing that. Yes, silicon based industry still we have to start, but I don't think it will take too much time when we start.

You can keep your negative post to yourself, we are growing, and will meet you soon.

I don't mean everyday electronics like lightbulbs or TV sets, anyone can make that. I'm talking about semiconductors,
processors and that kind of stuff. Very few countries make them - even India is going to open it's first dedicated semicon fab
unit in a few years time only...

Plus the issue is about programming the software, there is no denying the fact most computers & software in the world
today runs on code programmed by the US, Europe, Japan, and increasingly China & India. Even the basic building
blocks of software which enable writing of code, even on the particular robot in this thread, is most probably from one
    of the US/European/Japanese makers.

Pakistan is indeed far behind the leaders of the IT industry.

Sure, you can grow. But meeting India is out of the question, let's not suggest such fantasies. It takes billions of
dollars in investments and millions in trained human resources to get where we are today - there is no scope for such investment
    or growth in Pakistan.

But you are definitely capable of doing what you can within your limited sphere - but even this requires backing
by the government, as their's not much individuals can do in a business like this.

I totally disagree with you. We Pakistanis are full of talent, we have done wonders in all fields of science. Our scientists and engineers are recognized through out world. We have World’s 7th largest Pool of Scientists and Engineers. Thousands of our pakistani engineers and scientists are working in different countries of the world. We have made lots of inventions and discoveries in field of science.

FOLLOWING IS BRIEF LIST OF INVENTIONS AND DISCOVERIES OF PAKISTAN.

(1)Pakistan is the first and only member of CERN (the leading scientific agency) from South Asia.
    (2) Our scientists and engineers are working every where (NASA, CERN, etc)
(3)It Was Pakistan who has created world first computer virus.
(4)Dr Abdus Salam the great scientist of Pakistan discovered Higgs bason particles which travels faster than light. And formulated theory to explain it.
(5)Fourth largest broadband internet system of world is in Pakistan.
(6)Dr. Naweed Syed, a specialist in the field of biomedical engineering and member of the medicine faculty at the University of Calgary, became the first scientist who managed to "connect brain cells to a silicon chip"
(7)Development of the world's first workable plastic magnet at room temperature by organic chemist and polymer scientist Naveed Zaidi
(8)Dr Abdus Salam discovered new types of electro magnetic forces, this discovery led them to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics.
(9)Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood Developed SMB probe to detect heavy water leaks in nuclear power plants
(10)The Ommaya reservoir - a system for the delivery of drugs (e.g. chemotherapy) into the cerebrospinal fluid for treatment of patients with brain tumours - was developed by Ayub K. Ommaya, a Pakistani neurosurgeon.
(11)Two medical devices - a pleuroperitoneal shunt and a special endotracheal tube to supply oxygen during fiberoptic bronchoscopy in awake patients - were invented by Sayed Amjad Hussain, a Pakistani doctor from Peshawar, Pakistan. His work made him an inductee into the Medical Mission Hall of Fame.
(12)A Software simulation based on blast forensics designed by Pakistani computer scientist, Zeeshan-ul-Hassan Usmani, that can reduce deaths by 12 per cent and injuries by seven per cent from suicide bombers.
(13)The Sagar Veena, a string instrument designed for use in classical music, was developed entirely in Pakistan over the last 40 years at the Sanjannagar Institute in Lahore by Raza Kazim.
(14)The Human Development Index was devised by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq in 1990 and had the explicit purpose "to shift the focus of development economics from national income accounting to people centered policies".
(15)A team headed by Professor Sohail Khan, a Pakistani researcher at Loughborough University designed a clever lavatory that transforms human waste into biological charcoal and minerals. These can then be used as fuel or a form of conditioner for soil. It also produces clean water. The invention can lead to community-led total sanitation in the developing world. The challenge was set by Microsoft founder Bill Gates who wanted to improve sanitation for the poor and combat open defacation in countries where water supply and sewage pipe infrastructure is not widely available.

The reason that we are behind the world is because of our corrupt politicians. Who makes bad selfish decisions. And always shows importance to their own interest rather then working for the interest of Pakistan.

Muhammad Waqar Qureshi is a student at University of Central Punjab (UCP) and pure Pakistani genius. The 21 year old guy with a distinctive mind has already got four inventions in the field of Information Technology under his belt.

Muhammad Waqar Qureshi belongs from Lahore, Pakistan. He has done FSc in Pre-Engineering, and now he is a student of Bachelors of Computer Sciences (BCS) from the University of Central Punjab, Lahore.
This guy has made four inventions in the field of Information Technology, and as well as he was the person to design first ever Pakistani Urdu 3D Computer game Named as Waqt-Time to Eascape. We will discuss all of his inventions one by one.

First of all, I am coming to the first achievement of Waqar, which is the 3D Urdu Game, “Waqt-Time to Escape”, is a First Person Shooter game, which he designed when he was only 19 years old. According to him, he always wanted to play a Pakistani game with our own national Language Urdu. So he started working on the project and with his determination he achieved it in the age of 19.

If you are tired of using computer mouse, there is no need to worry, as Waqar has invented a“Non-touch Interface System”. It consists of a glove equipped with fully software and hardware applications attached with a pen, which can be used to operate all the computer functions, including typing, without touching your computer. This is the first time that a person can interact with the computer through the air without touching anything.

The second device is a “Head Tracking System”. By wearing this device on one’s head the cursor on the monitor moves with the movement of the head. The gadget is incomplete without the Video Goggles. As they are not attached to this tool because he can’t afford them as they are too expensive. Only the Video Goggles will be added to this Head tracking System device and then this will become a Virtual Reality System. Like they had shown in the Matrix film. When the user is playing a game he would feel that he’s inside the game (while he’s playing it on computer).
The Genius guy, Waqar has also developed a system which can “switch on or off all electric appliances through a computer, without any physical movement”. This System is a combination of Hardware and Software, Both are designed by himself. He said that it was his personal project and at this at time this system can operate only 8 devices but it can operate a maximum of 250 devices.

“Every screen a touch screen” This awesome system consists of a software portion and a hardware portion both were designed by this Genius Guy. With this system you can convert every screen into a touch screen, while using a projector you can make WALL a Touch Screen, and that’s amazing.
Conversion of one’s thought into occurrence has always been a dream and these days Waqar is working to convert this dream into a reality. The system on which he’s working is known as Brain Interface System, by which one can operate his computer by his brain without any physical movement. Intelligent students like Waqar are an asset for the country.

what made you think this ? Pak my be behind in IT and/or general purpose computer programming, but this not in the case of electrical/electronics(PLC, microcontroller, fpga) programming in which Pakistan isn,t really far behind

This post made me throw up in disgust.

The first point is utter horseshit, Pakistan is not a CERN member:
    Member states | CERN

It doesn't get better from there.

Pak to beat India to associate membership to Cern
    Kounteya Sinha, TNN | Feb 27, 2014, 06.32AM IST
Cern ( European Organization for Nuclear Research), the world's largest particle physics laboratory that recently found the God Particle.

A senior official of Cern told the TOI in London that bureaucratic red tape in India had slowed down the country's intentions of joining Cern as an associate member.

The official said, "Cern is very keen that India becomes an associate member and takes up a larger role in the experiments at Cern. But the final documents which India needed to submit have been stuck at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for months now."

    Pakistan granted Cern’s associate membership

ISLAMABAD: The European Council for Nuclear Research (Cern) has decided to grant Pakistan the status of an associate member.

Pakistan is the first Asian country and third after Turkey and Serbia to have received the associate membership.

The decision was taken at a session of the 21-member Cern Council held in Geneva on Thursday.

“It is an acknowledgement that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state with strong credentials in using civil nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, including in the areas of power generation, agriculture and medicine,” the ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement.

Having received Cern’s associate membership, Pakistan looks forward to benefiting from and contributing more intensively to the increasingly innovative and challenging initiatives in science and technology, it adds.

The council took the decision on the recommendation of its task force which visited Pakistan early this year. Members of the task force held talks with senior officials of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and visited various nuclear research institutions in the country. Pakistan had formally applied for an associate membership in February 2013.

The country has a two-decade long history of collaboration with Cern which began with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement in 1994.

Since then, Pakistan has carried out a number of successful projects involving a variety of technical disciplines with sophisticated technologies and precision engineering science, including the manufacture of various equipment and components of Cern’s Large Hadron Collider and associated experiments.

Pakistan becomes first Asian associate member of CERN

ISLAMABAD: The General Council of European Centre of Nuclear Research (CERN) has accepted Pakistan’s application for associate membership of the centre. The application was accepted in the CERN meeting held on June 19 (Thursday). According to a press release issued by the Foreign Office, the centre is one of the world’s leading scientific organisations conducting research on high-energy particle physics since 1954. Pakistan is the first Asian country to become an associate member of the organisation. The only two other associate members of CERN are Turkey and Serbia. Pakistan had formally applied for associate membership in February 2013. “In October 2013, the CERN Council had responded favourably to Pakistan’s associate membership and as a first step had sent a taskforce of experts to visit Pakistan earlier this year to scrutinise the application in greater detail. The team had favourably supported Pakistan’s credentials for associate membership,” the press release added. “With the new status of associate membership of CERN, Pakistan looks forward to benefiting from and contributing more intensively to the increasingly innovative and challenging initiatives in science and technology,” it added.

As I said in the other thread, the Pakistani and Indian media don't have a reputation for upholding the truest values of veracity of the press.

No CERN official has made a statement about Pakistan joining as an associate member. Something like this would also make the world news, which it hasn't. Only the Pakistani media and ToI (which no doubt copied it from the Pakistani media) has reported it.

Let me repeat, this is fake news.

Yes I read the Dawn articles etc.

Once again, something like this would make waves throughout the international scientific community which I am a part of. It has NOT. This is fake news.

Pakistan is currently an non-member state in the CERN, which comes with a lot of benefits for your countries particle physicists. I would take that a positive.
